I have a Playstation 3 which has no Zoom feature (as far as I know of). Do other blu-ray players have this? I really miss having zoom, especially on certain scenes I want to see more detail on a small area.
(mods go ahead and move this if it's more appropriate in the Players section). |

I'd actually like a feature to zoom out... You're like "...what?" Well let me tell you, my TV has some major overscan issues. So if I were able to zoom out, I wouldn't have to worry about it anymore. Right now my overscan is around 5%, before it was around 10-15% on all sides. It was horrible.

Clayton, you might want to search for the service code of your TV and see if overscan can be minimized or turned off completely.

How would one go about doing that? My 27' Westys have a large overscan on HD channels that is very annoying. The network logo is usually mostly cutt-off.

Service codes are basically what TV technicians/repairpersons use when they want to diagnose what's going on in your TV. The codes are usually in the service manual.
Some sites claim to have these in PDF form and you have to pay to get 'em. Sometimes though these PDFs are available for free online. With the service code, you may be able to turn off overscan. There are also options to fix your color temperature. fuad |

So anyone else want to chime in? It sucks not to be able to zoom!

My player doesn't, but my TV does. However, this feature was designed to zoom 3:4 aspect ratio video so that it fills the screen (with some clipping on the top and bottom). I never thought of using it to get a better view of detail in scenes. The problem is that it doesn't increase the image size very much and you can't pan and scan when you are zoomed.
I have a cheap DVD player that does have a zoom feature, but it's not very useful because there isn't that much detail there. I would like a zoom feature (maybe 2x and 4x) to see things like clues in a mystery that are on a note that's too small to read. I would rather have a zoom feature than 3D. Oh well, maybe in the next generation Blu-ray . . . ![]() |
