Challenge accepted......copied & pasted from both my sent emails:

Any chance we'll be seeing a Dead Presidents release? I know Criterion released it on Laser Disc way back when.

Thanks, Mike

Well, funny you say this about Dead Presidents. I've actually asked them about Lone Star for the past maybe 3 years or so. I've asked them on their Facebook page, Twitter, and sent them a few emails. Zero response on all of it. Then out of the blue, they announced it. So take heart, they may do the same with DP. At least it got a blu release. Hell, it even got a laserdisc release.

Lone Star is a very personal one for me. I've grown up and spent most of my child/adulthood in the Central and South Texas areas. Lone Star like a time capsule of what it was like to live here, warts and all. Sayles perfectly captured just about every aspect of life here in the 70's and 80's, from the racism, culture clashes, and the feel of what it was like to live in a small Texas town. I also think it's his best, but I am biased with this film.

I'd also love to see Criterion tackle Men with Guns, which I think is Sayles most overlooked film. I was a projectionist at SXSW where he screened it before he came out. He was a very nice guy and loved talking about film in general.

Lone Star = Owned by Warner, who has licensed several titles to Criterion over the last decade.

Dead Presidents = Owned by Disney, who has licensed only a handful of sporadic titles to Criterion

You're correct, actually was thinking Dead Ringers. Which....isn't quite the same. But it did get a laserdisc release.

I think it's a personal one for a lot of us. I can't even describe how happy I am to see this finally coming to UHD. It's also my favorite Sayles. Such a great film.

Mike???

Just letting you know that 2/3 of your user name is a lie. And if it turns out you're a chick, then it is a full lie.

I just want you all to know that the comments in this thread have made me 100% sold on a blind buy. I am still trying to figure out why I have not seen this all these years. It sounds like it's right up my alley.

Sayles movies sadly often fly under the radar. I don't have a lot of "What if I was stuck on a desert island?" movies, but this is one of them. Hope you enjoy it even half as much as I do.

Sayles' masterpiece. Eminently rewatchable.

SPOILER ALERT:
Possibly the best ending of any movie I've ever seen. Years after seeing it for the first time, I can't forget it or the shock it gave me. Simply amazing.

I think one of the real highlights (besides the story itself) is the way he did the flashbacks.

There's just so much there. The first time I watched it, I thought Frances McDormand's character/performance was over the top, but then...

[Show spoiler]...it became clear that the beauty of the entire scene was the abrupt tonal change. The moment she says "Your shit is in the garage", she goes from arm's-length crazy lady to sympathetic jilted ex. A sudden frost settles on the conversation right then, and Sam is a little less the hero. Now I love that scene, like most others. McDormand nails it.

Criminally underrated film, and yes, the kicker ending about took me out of my chair. Some of the best writing and production I've seen. Wonderful "little" film and one I am looking forward to on UHD.
