Arrow Disney's Tangled Review Thread (Spoilers)

Some concept images have emerged from Disney's Rapunzel:

Quote:
As much as I love Pixar films and CGI in general, I'm psyched that Disney is reportedly aiming for a more traditional 2-D look with its upcoming CGI film Rapunzel. Unfortunately, except for an early concept image of the title character, we haven't seen any CG images -- but we do have more concept art today.

Though it's clearly 2-D, you can't deny that Disney is heading in the right direction with Rapunzel boasting a style that is at once unique, yet reminscent of some its earlier properties -- something to be expected as producer Glen Keane, who was originally set to direct, was the supervising animator for Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin as well as the character designer for The Little Mermaid and The Black Cauldron.

I was actually hoping for the more traditional drawn movie, but this should be nice. Disney never lets us down with visuals.

Default Disney's Rapunzel Now Named Tangled out Nov

Disney has decided to change the title of their upcoming animated feature Rapunzel to Tangled. The film was originally titled Rapunzel Unbraided. Roy Conli, producer of the film, made the announcement on Facebook referring to the film as " a really fresh, smart take on the Rapunzel story." The film hits theaters in November

That is the dumbest name change i ever heard of Rapunzel Unbraided sounds way better than Tangled

I think probably it's because most people can't pronounce Rapunzel

I suspect the real reason is the "Rapunzel" story and name is in the public domain and may not be able to be trademarked. It is also likely that knock-off filmmakers will be quick to release their own versions of "Rapunzel".

This move probably came from the legal and/or marketing department.

That is very logical and you may be right

I'm disappointed they went with Mandy Moore instead of Kristen Chenoweth. The title doesn't bother me.

Of course I'll support the film no matter what. I want Disney to know there is a market for traditional hand drawn animation.

Ahum, it's CG, actually.

And as long as the movie turns out good, I don't really care about the name change.

No, the official reason--and mark it down people, so we won't have to post it again--is because the management is DETERMINED to follow their own inferiority-complex reasoning that "Audiences hate princesses! " as the reason that Princess & the Frog did "disappointing" business at the theaters, and not because oh, say, it might've opened one week before "Avatar" during the traditionally slowest three box-office weeks of the year.

So, Disney pulled out its old tricks from the last time they had to publicly "redeem" what they panickedly believed were Disney Princesses' "un-PC" image, and adopted a "fresh, funny, contemporary" title that sounded.....an awful darn lot like "Enchanted".
You know, adjective-verb tenses, and all that.

(There's rumblings around the animation community to start a letter writing campaign to repair the damage before any more bad corporate decisions are made from unfairly martyring P&TF--especially since Rapunzel/Tangled may similarly be going up against Harry Potter #7A in its Thanksgiving release--but the damage may not be able to be fixed by the time the corporate press releases have gone out.)

Even less excited. Hopefully JL had a hand in it.

Lasseter apparently decided it should go from Rapunzel Unbraided (a Shrek-like spoof) to Rapunzel, a more faithful adaptation of the fairy tale. Then again, he also fired Glen Keane as the director of the project, so whether Lasseter's involvement in this is a good thing or not remains to be seen.

Keane was reportedly taking forever to develop his distinctive "CGI paint" style, and Lasseter wanted it finished--
Not in the same league as his firing Chris Sanders off of the earlier version of "Bolt", which, according to insiders, was an unholy mess.

Well, Sanders' movie American Dog is something we'll never see, so we can't compare. And being advocate of the devil, if you're going to take sides, take the one the of the person who's in charge of animation. Not the director who left after the whole debacle. But who knows? Maybe it would've been way better than Bolt, which is entertaining, but hardly original.

Leaked "Tangled" Teaser

Source: worst preview

Quote:
Disney's "Princess and the Frog" is set to be released on DVD and Blu-ray on March 16th, and on the discs is a teaser trailer for "Rapunzel," which was recently renamed to "Tangled."

But you don't have to wait another two weeks to see the teaser, because we have it here for you. In addition, we also have the full trailer, but it is a work-in-progress and contains lots of unfinished animation. Check both out below.

"Tangled" is directed by Byron Howard (Bolt) and Nathan Greno (head of story for "Bolt") and is scheduled to hit theaters on November 24th, 2010.

...There's still time to get your cards and letters into the Disney Company HQ, just in case you think they're harboring any wrong ideas about what we might've thought of Princess & the Frog.
