Default Will Blu-ray drives upconvert?

Hi, newbie to this forum. Will Blu-Ray drives(PC) upconvert
standard DVD's, or is it only the Blu-Ray stand-alone players that can? I'm interested in watching my standard DVD's upconverted on my PC, the problem is my PC doesn't have HDMI, SVHS, or component connectors. It has a LAN connector...would that be able to receive the signal from the LAN connector on a stand-alone player?

Thx

The drive itself won't, but software can.

You don't need a Blu-ray drive to upconvert DVDs on PC.
You just need your current existing DVD Drive.

Like Stillhouse said, a good DVD player software is all you need. Maybe Cyberlink PowerDVD.

And you also won't need HDMI. If your LCD monitor and your video card has DVI, use it, it's actually the same thing as HDMI except without the audio.

You dont even need DVI - on a PC you will still upconvert via basic Analog VGA cables (they can carry a huge amount of bandwidth)

Thanks everyone for their responses! I have Power DVD, but it plays back DVD's looking standard. But it's an old version, something like V4. Are you saying that the newer versions of Power DVD will automatically upconvert on the fly as you play the DVD's?

I use ArcSoft Total Media Theatre SimHD plug-in. It's not a good picture, but I think you can tell the difference.
