I think they could do all of them if they wanted, they wouldn't need those kids necessarily since they are grown up in their small cameos in The Last Battle and Horse and His Boy...Horse and His Boy is problematic because it is very different from the other books which do follow sequentially for the most part, the Last Battle is depressing but I think Silver Chair and Magician's Nephew could make good movies, especially Silver Chair, although I've never liked Eustace as a character

Thanks, OP. I was just talking to my sister about this today as I hadn't heard/checked any news since Disney opted out. Glad to hear it's moving forward.

So really I am not suprised at all that they got rid of the movie to another company and really after the first movie alone I am not expecting much from the rest of the Franchise after it. I mean Caspian flopped and waredrobe was slightly above average as far as a movie went. I'm not even going to expect this one to make back what they end up putting into it in the long run

That's just my opinion though.
Well to quote IMDB, "The franchise's first outing, The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, raked in more than $745 million (£532 million), while follow-up Prince Caspian took in $419 million (£299 million) worldwide."

That's not LOTR money, but neither of these movies flopped, and I'm sure the home video market has been very kind to Disney. After LORT Disney was just hoping to have another mega-hit on their hands, and ended up with just a hit.

This seems to be the trend with movie studios these days. They want mega-hits to milk. Look at POTC. Disney will put all of their resources into that since it turned out to be a huge property. Even Disney was surprised at how well the first one did. There wasn't any plans for a sequel initially.

Personally I liked both Narnia movies and I look forward to the next installment. I do think there can be improvements in the series with the right directing and improved writing, and hopefully this is what will happen.

Part of the problem may be that they just aren't long enough. When it comes to book-to-film transfers cuts are a necessity, but Peter Jackson was smart enough to give us longer than average movies for the theatrical releases, and even then the extended versions are far superior. I refuse to watch the theatrical versions myself which is why I won't buy the Blu's until the extended versions are released. If the writers and the director can just flesh things out a bit more I think the next Narnia film may go over better.

Caspian didn't do as well as hoped because it was demandingly sandwiched in between May '08's two most unexpected hits--
Each studio assumed THEY were the Unstoppable May Tentpole, and Paramount won, but Warner and Disney were left out.

As to Disney breaking ties with Walden, that was more over budget delays--
Longer waits for Treader meant more money, and Disney wasn't prepared to pay...Walden had been wanting to break out into Fox projects, and now got their wish. Problem is, that left a lot of Treader that now had to be renegotiated from scratch WITHOUT Disney.
Which meant longer delays, as well as more money.

...They'll get things ironed out eventually.
Still, if it's going to take too long, wouldn't mind seeing them replace the cast and start over, as Harry Potter had to with one replacement.
Yes, I know, they'd never find a better Lucy in the world, but well, they could try.

The Narnia books aren't that long or detailed. I think the problem is that they have overemphasized the battles and adventure, and de-emphasized the plot and character development so as not to appear "too Christian".

Michael Apt? Wasn't he the director of the HBO series Rome? That was an extremely violent show, but was well made. Surprised about the director though, but it may lead to a more mature prespective of the Narnia series, but that is entirely speculation. I do agree that The lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was much better than Prince Caspian, since it was more consistent than Prince Caspian.

^ The new director has been known since just before the release of Prince Caspian, which is never a good sign for a film about to come out, here is the new film, but we've already hired a new director and screenwriter for the next film.

I don't think that is a bad sign considering the director of the first stated that he wouldn't direct the third.

So, Fox is in charge of finishing the Narnia Trilogy? What about Disney? Are they producing the movie along with Walden Media?

I meant I took it as a bad sign for Prince Caspian not for Voyage.

Disney is out, they don't want to be involved with the movies anymore because I'm fairly certain they weren't turning a profit. Fox is willing to take the risk but I think unless Dawn Treader happens soon and does better than the first two movies did, this is it for Narnia.

Well, the Holiday 2010 release date is much, much better than the May release date PC had. That was a bad move by Disney/Walden. It should have either been a Holiday 2007 release or Holiday 2008, not summer.

That's my point. There was very little development with the plot and characters of both movies. The battles were fine, but if they developed the characters and fleshed out the story more I think these would have been longer, but better movies. I do agree with the assertion that they were looking to minimize the Christian elements which was probably a mistake. I'm not the most religious guy on earth, but I still think these are very accessible stories. You don't have to be religious to enjoy the world of Narnia.

I'm not religious at all, but enjoyed most of the Narnia books, except for the terrible last battle.

That said, there wasn't much to de-emphasize in the first book, it was kept on a metaphorical level (while the last book drops all pretense).
It's just like the first Golden Compass book, it really didn't have much in the way of religious criticism; that came later.
