Default Placing my newegg order now. Upgrade for $100 or no??

I am ordering the moniter 60s and can't decide if it's worth the extra $$ to go from the cs1 to the cs2 ( 99 for the cs1 149 for the cs2 ).

And is it worth going to the monitor 40s instead of the 30s for my surrounds? ( 99 for the 30s or 149 for the 40s )

is the extra size gonna help the center much ? And just for using my surrounds would I really need the 2- 5 1/4" that were in the 40s?

Also. Put the protection plan on them or no?

Get the bigger center speaker, you will be happy you did, center channel carries a lot of audio, and typically the bigger ones perform better.

Surrounds in your case don't matter much, I would prolly get the 30s.

I wouldn't buy the protection plan. you will know if something is wrong right when you look at them and listen to them... return policy for damaged speakers???? I bet there is. Have them send you the replacement.

I'd def. get the CS2 as I had the CS10 & it sounded ok but as the above reply noted, since MOST of your dialogue is coming from the Center, it'll be worth it in the long run to have the larger Center spkr. As for the surrounds, the 30's would work fine, they did for me -- but, if you're possibly planning on going to 7.1 down the road, like I did, then you could use those as your surrounds, & get the 30's as your back surrounds. It depends on if you think you'll stay at 5.1 & if you have enough room for the 40's. remember, those are much larger & you'll either need good sized end tables for them or strong stands. the 30's I mounted on my back wall quite easily.

as for the protection plan, you don't need it. POLK AUDIO speakers come with a 5-Year Warranty - when you get them, all you have to is register them at the website & you're all set.

I agree with the other two post get the CS2 I did and I have the Monitor 60's and they sound great together. For surrounds the Monitor 30's will do fine the 40's are large and take up some space. Forget the protection plan IMO.

protection plan = gimmick to get more $$$ from your pockets, all electronic stores do this trick and will try you with it every time to get it...

not worth it when you buy a quality product with its own warranty from the manufacture

I would choose the upgrade to the Polk CS2 without a second thought.
I would also make the move to the Monitor 60's(That 3rd 5 1/4inch woofer)does make a difference.

And if you are going to upgrade all around go after the Monitor 40's.With the full range surrounds on loseless surround tracks, the 40's will sound slightly fuller.
But if you were to make only 1 upgrade go for the CS2,you will not regret it.

I would get the CS2 as well for the same reasons as mentioned above. Youll regreat shortly hereafter if you did not get the larger center channel. Take it from me and someone with the CS10. I have the space for it too, but I am also not underwhelmed by it either. I just wish I had gotten the larger CS2.

screw the polk 30/40s for surround sound
get a pair of polk dipole/bipole speakers.....FXI3's

as far as the cs1/cs2 debate.....i have a cs1 yet i dont have room for the cs2.
then again i have never felt the 'need' to upgrade to 6.5" drivers for the cs2 from my 5.25" cs1 drivers as i use the receiver built in crossovers @ 80hz.

so with my crossover being set @ 80hz what difference will a bigger driver make if im not sending bass to the center channel

plus the 5.25" driver in the cs1 match the monitor 60s(t90e's for me) and FXI3's

Thanks for all the replies guys! I would love the cs2 just for the fact of having a strong center channel but I don't think I'll be able to do them . I measured my tv stand and I only have 7" clearence I'll try to post a link to my stand to show you but the tv sits ontop and the 2 shelves below it are pretty narrow.. Is there a mount I can buy that I could put behind my stand to mount the tv onand then I'll have the whole top part for my center?

Have you thought of some how making something on your own (that is fundamentally strong) that you could place the TV upon so it would raise the TV that much higher off the stand, allowing for more clearance under the TV for a bigger center channel? I believe Ozzman did something like this with his TV and stand.....

Ok. This s my tv stand. It makes it look like it's much bigger than it is on the 2 bottom shelves. But this is what I have to work with. I can't do a wall mount I would have to do a floor standing tv mount do they make one that I could just throw behind this stand?

I did actually lol. I wAs gonna build a 2x4 frame and wrap it in mdf router the edges to a quarter round then cover it in black vinyl. Making it about an inch wider on all 4 sides than the actual tvs stand but then realized doh. That's my problem. The cs10 I have now is to deep I can push my tv all the wAyback to the edge of the stand and still the center won't fit.

The tv has to get offthe stand somehow or else I have to just use a center thAt's about 6 3/4 hi

Another thing that sucks ( I think ) in the link I posted to my ent center, my center now is on the rack below where the tv sits. Is this to low?

you can use what I have here - works fine, inexpensive, does the job & you can tilt it down a bit. Pics of it are in my July 2009 Gallery (& some better pics actually in my June 2009 Gallery of it in use)

The IT guys have blocked that site on me, as I'm at work. If the center speaker is below your ears, could you angle it up in the direction of where your ears are when you sit? IN my gallery, I had to do that with the CS10, and I do not know if you know this, but the CS1,2, 10 and 20 can be flipped upside down (take the grill off and flip it over) and you have a natural center channel that is angled up. Look in my pics, it is my 6th pic....I have my CS10 flipped and angled up....

My center channel sits below my ears too, I do not have it angled up at all and it works very well in providing solid sound. you can look at my gallery to see what I mean.

i was in the same situation as u. my orginal plan was to get m20 and cs1 and m30 for my set up, but talking with forsberg and tals they suggested i should spend the extra $$ and get m40 and cs2 because they are better and i will be saving more money by not uping so fast. i only wanted to spend 300, but there wasnt anything out that were nice, so i decided to spend a few more so that these speakers would last a long time. i will let you know how they are once i get them. even if they dont fit make then fit, u dont want to spend extra money bc werent happy center speakers. gl with your setup.

Hey everyone, quick question. . . has anyone bought "open box" speakers from NewEgg before? they have a killer deal on Monitor 70's but they are "open box". Any Thoughts? ? ?

I never have, but you do know that the open box is for only one M70, right?
