Default Disney+ Merges with Hulu

If you have the Disney Bundle, or Disney+ and a Hulu subscription with the same user name and email address for both, there was a surprise waiting for you today on Disney+...

Hulu now has a tile on Disney+, meaning Disney+ is now a portal site for both Disney+ and Hulu. The Hulu tile has a "Beta" tag on it, and I don't yet know what tires they're kicking, but it's a bit of a trip to go to Disney+ and watch this go down...via the Hulu tile, you can click on 20th Century Studios and find some R-Rated Fox films. That's right, you can now go to Disney+ and watch Alien, The Omen, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I'll update this as I get more info. Just getting the word out Disney+ just became a sizable content app (or website, if that's how you roll)...

I checked this morning and the Hulu portal was not there. Just checked and it is there now.

Disney didn't merge with Hulu. Disney bought the remaining share from Comcast and now owns 100% of Hulu.

It was a sale - not a merger.

I'm talking ABOUT THE DISNEY+ SITE/APP, Lee. Not the companies.

I'm getting why this is called a Beta...it's not "full Hulu" yet. For instance, the TV series, Fargo, is only the current 5th season on the Disney+ Beta version, while seasons 1-5 are on the actual Hulu app. A metric ton of films aren't available yet via the Disney+ tile, etc. So don't go deleting your bookmarks yet, lol...

We'll see what happens in March.

Over in Europe it is called Disney+ and Stars. They don't have Hulu like we in the US. Maybe now they turn two apps into one. I would appreciate it. When I signed up for Disney+ years ago, I had the option for a Hulu, ESPN+ and Disney+ bundle. ESPN+ was technically free of charge in the bundle. But having all of it now in one app is a huge improvement.

Has anything been added to Disney+ in Canada? We’ve had Star for awhile which features Fox titles and some Hulu releases, but I just checked for the Mary Tyler Moore Show (which was on Hulu) and it’s still not there.

I have it on dvd but would like to have access to it on my iPad Pro. And it’s a shame it hasn’t been remastered in HD yet.

Looks like we’ll get better audio and video. Prey is now in Dolby vision. Great news. Just in to,e for the creator.

You going to buy it for him/her/they?

I posted this info in the Disney+ thread but you can search for Hulu titles not listed in the Hub. No guarantee a title will show up, Slotherhouse is not available but Fools’s Paradise is; as an example.

Also, it looks like a straight port over so 4K SDR titles remain 4K only while 4K HDR titles are now 4K Dolby Vision. There is no Atmos audio right now despite the D+ app supporting it for the main content.

It will certainly help out my elderly parents, who have enough trouble turning the TV on, let alone using the apps on the Roku TV my brother-in-law bought for them...

But anyway, it isn't "full Hulu" yet, the Disney+ Beta is more like the Halloween candy "bite-size" version of Hulu.

There will be two apps because Disney knows not everyone wants one or the other. They are following WarnerDiscovery who kept the Discovery+ app up for those who don’t want to pay more for content they won’t watch.

Also, did you not watch the video? It shows a Hulu hub/tab on the Disney+ Home Screen. As long as you pay for Hulu either in a bundle or seperately and your emails are the same for both services, you just click play on a title in Disney+ and watch. That’s why Disney is offering the bundles with a discount.

No. This is for the US only, the UK has Disney+ with Star already. Star has the Hulu shows and movies, albeit some remove the Hulu credit in the titles. Also, unlike the US, Star is already included in the Disney+ price. There is no bundle to purchase.
