Region coding on computers for Blu-ray are handled by the playback software - not the drive.

Set the player software to Region A and you're good!

speaking of that Quickplay software, does that allow you to select HDMI for the audio output? to get DTS HD MA etc?

Default "Blu-ray 2.0"

New discs doesn't seem to be the problem on my HP HDX Dragon with Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500A... I can't play movies I have played before any longer, all I get is a message telling me to insert a disc. I have upgraded Quickplay to the latest release (even though it tells me an update is available all the time). So new discs/format is not the problem, as I can't play old discs, either.... and I haven't installed any third party players....

Hello everyone. I have been looking around this site and google for a bit now trying to find a solution to my problem here. The problem I have is that the blu-ray drive on this laptop is no longer playing any blu-ray. When I first got the laptop I tried some blu-rays and it worked then, but ever since then.. Nothing! It will not load or do anything, just sits there showing there is nothing in the drive. Some things I read said to find a firmware update for the blu-ray driver itself (its the Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500A). Others say to just update the laptops default player (being QuickPlay). I updated QuickPlay to 3.7 which is the newest version and I still have the same problem. Nothing is ever showed to be loaded in the drive. Nothing plays. I dont know what to do? anyone have an idea?

those are some links to this laptop. It is just getting a little annoying that I cant play a blu-ray though that was a reason I got this laptop.

-thank you-

Basically the same problem as the previous poster!!!! normal dvds seem to work fine.
