Unhappy Highlander Season 1 Blu-ray

To fans of the show you can now pre-order season 1 on blu-ray. I really hope they remastered this and it looks good.

Saw it here,

Might be a good idea to wait on reviews of this one... Most (if not all) of the original film elements for the Highlander TV show were destroyed in a fire years ago (long before people thought about HD). SD masters are all that's remained of them for quite a while... I can only assume the HD masters are up-rezzed from the SD.

16mm film to SD master, up-rezzed to HD... I don't have my hopes up... But you never know what kind of miracle they might pull off...

I just got off the phone with them, they're really happy with the upconversions that were done. Unfortunately the people I have access to are not the techs, so the lossless issue is probably not one I can get a good answer to. I will tell you that the fidelity available, just given the realities of the production, we're probably not missing alot.

Hope these are good quality. The active pillar box ala pinocchio is a nice touch.
Does anyone know if they are going to honor the preorders made a year ago and if they are still going to ship the replica sword letter opener. I know I was one of the first to preorder.

I'm sure they will. I still have all the stuff that came with my Highlander DVD's that I bought from them. Including the cool Highlander coffee cup that I still use.
There was one thing that neve made since thoe. They sent my a free VHS copy of the first Highlander movie with one of my DVD orders. I did not understand why as I already had the first movie on DVD at that time?

Those of you importing the Highlander Steelbook, it's awesome, but be aware that the eventual US release, probably tied in with the remake will contain all kinds of new bonus material that they're shooting in the next few weeks.

Me, I'm importing the steelbook, and switch it out when the time comes

Yep, I wish Anchor bay would get down to business and give us some more great oldies on blu-ray including the original Highlander! I have the their collectable "Immortal Edition" with embosed metal slipcover and Queen music sampler, got my copy brand new and sealed a few years ago at Suncoast for measly $7.95 + tax!

NEW box art, exterior and interior:

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Hig...-Blu-ray/12442

... plus an example of what the active pillars will look like.

(As a side note, I ran Adrian Paul's fan club for a while and did P.R. for his children's charity; he's one of the nicest and hardest working people I've ever met.)

Talking Yes.

This is one of my all time favorite shows, but I'm def. going to wait on it. I can't really remember the show being that popular, and I don't know anyone who watches it. They may not put too much effort into this one. I'm praying I'm wrong. If the picture is great, I'll happily buy it at full price. "Okay, everybody who's an Immortal, raise their hand."

The question is not of effort, it's the quality of the source material. Apparently the film is lost for many of the episodes and a rescan is impossible.

The show was hugely popular, especially in Europe

So not all the episodes will be upscaled from SD masters? There will still be episodes with new HD masters?

That'd be interesting to see if they would do something like that. I'm not sure how much film they have left, apparently most of it was destroyed...

Hopefully the show is popular enough that they release all the seasons. It would suck if they only release 1 or 2 and decide it's not worth continuing (if it doesn't sell well...)

Another thing to keep in mind when this is released- Season 1 was the worst looking season. Lowest budget I suspect, so cheaper film stock, etc. The show definitely gets better looking as the season progress. So, Season 1 won't necessarily be the benchmark for the whole series, even if it's all from the SD masters...
