Loved the version with Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, and I believe, the great Vincent Price...my personal favorite vinatge horror movie actor. This sounds interesting. Get Johnny Depp, and I'll get on line for a ticket now!

JEREMY RENNER AND EWAN MCGREGOR ARE IN TALKS TO STAR IN THIS MOVIE

Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting, Big Fish) and Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) are both in talks to co-star in Ninja Assassin and V For Vendetta director James McTeigue’s upcoming period thriller The Raven. Renner is also in talks with Universal Pictures for Peter Berg’s big screen adaptation of the board game Battleship. But The New York Times says that Renner has had “no fewer than five meetings to star in another project, which he declines to reveal” and that both Battleship and this mystery project are both planned for a Summer shoot, which means the actor must make a choice. Movieline suggests that the mystery role might be to co-star alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman in Paul Thomas Anderson’s scientology movie The Master.

First Look Image of John Cusack in ‘The Raven’

Relativity Media released the first look image of actor John Cusack as the poet Edgar Allen Poe in the upcoming thriller “The Raven.”

The film also stars Luke Evans, Alice Eve, Brendan Gleeson and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.

Here is the official synopsis of the film:

In this gritty thriller, Edgar Allen Poe (John Cusack) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans) to hunt down a mad serial killer who’s using Poe’s own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders.

When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper—part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story.

Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe’s writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author’s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.

The film is directed by James McTeigue (“Ninja Assassin,” “V for Vendetta”). The screenplay is written by Ben Livingston (“Unrest,” “Bruce Almighty”) and Hannah Shakespeare (“Loverboy”).

The film is scheduled for release in theaters on March 9th next year.
