Default suggestions on bookshelves?

I am starting to look into getting a couple bookshelf speakers for my living room. I would use them for 80%music/20%movies (when I don’t want to use my movie room). I was able to demo B & W and some Paradigm’s yesterday and really enjoyed their sound. I am all about getting the biggest bang for your buck and the salesman said Paradigm is the way to go. I want to stay anywhere from $300-$600 for the pair. I understand that amount would only get me into the entry level Paradigms or B & W but I am open to any good suggestions on other brands.

I have a pair of Polk RTi4 bookshelves that I would be more than happy to send to you for $300. I would even throw in the shipping to WI.

If you are debating between those two manufacturers, I would say either would be a good choice. Which exact models are you looking at?

Other options in your price range are Polk LSi7, Polk RTi A3, Klipsch RB-61, Def Tech has a few, oh, and Bose is in there, too.

I'm Going to recommend the Definitve Technology Mythos Gems XL. You should be able to find a pair for around $600. I know a guy who can get you a deal .

Paradigms are nice too, really it all comes down to what your (and maybe your wife/girlfriend's) ears enjoy (allow) to buy.

haha thanks. I would be looking at paradigm monitor atoms or the B & W 600 series. I was also looking into SWAN but I do not have any local shops that carry these.

ListenUp.com still has the Boston Acoustics E60 (cherry) for $199.50 each.
Also has the E70 (cherry) for $249 each (LCR - little bigger than bookshelf). You can see both in my pic gallery. These are very good speakers (E70 retailed at $800 each) that are now discontinued and heavily discounted.

I like the B&W 685s they are really nice, you can also check into these or this if you want to save up some and get a really nice speaker. I think Monitor Audio will sell these about $500-600 if you want to try them as well. I think JasonR just bought these you can ask him what they sold them to him for.

I have never heard of QUAD at all. I will have to call around to local shops to try to demo some.

If music is as important as movies for you, add Tekton Design speakers to your list. They are high quality speakers at very low factory-direct prices.

Plenty of good suggestions here !!!

Ozz, I also liked the way the Paradigm Titans sound !!!

I heard the Titans hooked up to a Yamaha stereo receiver and it had a very sweet midrange and huge soundstage. If you were to pair the Titans with a nice musical subwoofer it would be a great little setup for music.

So many choices out there, tough decision............

Good luck !!!

You guys do not make this easy on a guy!! haha

I am very interested in these tekton speakers, I have never heard of them. The problem is there is no local stores that carry these (and many others brands that have been given)... I want to be able to throw in some Vivaldi and let it blow me away!!

I am planning on just using the two bookshelves in my living room and no subwoofer. I am not sure what I will get to power it yet but I guess it depends on the speakers I choose.

It is our job to make your life difficult.

Tekton Design is a relatively small company. Their speakers are not mass produced like some of the more popular speakers. Eric Alexander is the owner/designer of the company. He is a good guy and will walk you through your needs and may also do some custom work. Give him a call. The phone number and email are listed on their web site. This is a post from a satisfied customer.

You know there is a very good possibility that your 2 bookshelf speakers could be better then your Polk fronts!

The B&W 686s and 685s are within your price..... but you should make sure to give the Monitor Audio V10s a listen...... I haven't heard them yet, but hear nothing but good things about them.
