Default Film and television soundtracks on CD

I was torn as to whether I should start separate threads for the various music labels that release film and TV soundtracks on CD (eg. Howlin' Wolf, Intrada, La-La Land and Quartet Records, and Varese Sarabande), or start one thread where members can post about CD releases of film scores/soundtracks. For the time being, unless someone else can suggest a better idea, am starting just the one thread. Below are the links to the websites for the aforementioned music labels and one or two other labels:

Howlin' Wolf Records: https://howlinwolfrecords.com/

Intrada Records: https://store.intrada.com/

Klaatu Records: https://www.klaaturecords.com/

La-La Land Records: https://lalalandrecords.com/

Quartet Records: https://quartetrecords.com/

TerrorVision have a couple of music score/soundtrack CD titles available on their website currently: https://www.terror-vision.com/

Varese Sarabande: https://varesesarabande.com/

*****

Screen Archives Entertainment (aka SAE) sell a lot of music score and soundtrack CD albums (having trouble with including the link to that website in this post as some of the artwork for various music score/soundtrack CD albums isn't appearing).

Good stuff, OceanBlue. It's handy to have links to several of the major film score reissue labels in one post.

Great idea for a thread! Funny thing is that I was telling you about a new to me company that I found, and you have it on this list. Intrada Records. I stumbled upon it on Facebook where they were talking about a new Something Wicked This Way Comes CD coming out on Jan 16th! I'll be snagging a copy of that for sure

I'd requested this area to be created once before but nothing happened. Suggested it a second time very recently in the Feedback sub-forum. Thought it would be a useful area for members who are also interested in music scores and soundtracks for films and television series. We'll see how it goes (separate threads could for example be started, but I thought it best to put the website links for the various music labels in one thread.

I think I came across a thread in North America recently for Something Wicked This Way Comes. Am sure I've got a UK DVD or Blu-ray release of that - released by Second Sight Films? That UK boutique label included (and I was reminded of this by another member last year in a thread for the film) a music score CD in their Blu-ray set of the original When a Stranger Calls (for that film).

Eventually, I want to get Klaatu Records' CD releases of the scores for Prom Night II and III, Dark Night of the Scarecrow and There's Nothing Out There. I found on Amazon UK some time ago a music score CD album release for the original Prom Night.

Thanks to both of you for the helpful, supportive replies.

The forthcoming Prom Night III CD has been cancelled and replaced by a double feature 2CD release: PROM NIGHT III & IV - Original Soundtracks by Paul Zaza

Quote:
Klaatu Records proudly presents the world premiere 2CD set release to the horror films, "PROM NIGH III: THE LAST KISS" and "PROM NIGHT IV: DELIVER US FROM EVIL" composed by Paul Zaza

This 1990 sequel to "HELLO MARY LOU", takes place after the events of the 1987 film where Mary Lou Maloney's spirit is sent to hell after the revenge and possession of her boyfriend, Bill Nordham at the end of that film. Mary Lou's vengeful spirit somehow escapes from hell and damnation and has returned to terrorize the halls of Hamilton High once again. Mary Lou (Played by Courtney Taylor in this film, Lisa Scrange in the previous film), has chosen her next victim to manipulate and this time, it is a depressed loner named Alex Grey (Tim Conlon, REVENGE OF THE NERDS 3, DISNEY'S ANGELS IN THE OUTFIELD), who dreams of being a prominent doctor one day. Will Alex succum to Mary Lou and enjoy eternal love in hell? Or will he forsake her and make his own dreams come true and kill off his evil first love.

This fourth film in the "PROM NIGHT" series begins in 1957 on the same night Mary Lou Maloney was burnt alive inside Hamilton High and outside the school, a young couple was murdered by a lunatic priest named Father Jonas (James Carver). The church soon banishes him and lock him away for almost 30 years. Jonas finally escapes his underground church prison and starts to wreck havoc once again on the very same night where he murdered and immolated his first victims, Prom Night! A pair of couples choose Jonas' hideaway to have a tryst not knowing that he now out and bloodthirsty as ever.

Returning to score the third and fourth film is franchise composer Paul Zaza
It doesn't state it on the listing, but this release is limited to just 200 copies.

Default The music scores/soundtracks for the Prom Night films on CD

Thanks Katatonia for posting the above about the replacement, now combo CD release of Prom Night III, with the music score to the last film in the original series (also, thanks for mentioning about how many copies there will be of this Klaatu Records release).

The music score CD album releases for the three Prom Night sequels aside, on my want list also, are Klaatu's CD releases of Dark Night of the Scarecrow, The Hazing (this is a possible purchase) and There's Nothing Out There.

Below is the link to the Amazon UK listing page link for the CD album release of the music score/soundtrack for the original Prom Night, followed by the front cover artwork:

A new score for The Phantom Carriage (1921) has been recorded by Kælan Mikla and Bardi Johannsson.

You can listen to the tracks and buy the record or CD here.

I have been a huge fan of Kælan Mikla, an Icelandic goth band, for many years now and even saw them in concert here in Atlanta last year.

Here's the first video from the project...

I need to check if the Frenzy music score CD album is still available (the Live and Let Die and Octopussy expanded music score CD albums are by the looks of it becoming harder to find now), but after checking last night for any La-La Land Records news, saw an 'X' (Twitter) post saying that available to buy from next Tuesday (May 7th) are two new titles (another Star Trek: The Original Series music score album and Hitchcock's Torn Curtain (both the used and unused music scores).

I like the sound of those~especially for Star Trek I do see Frenzy still available as well. They just announced a CD for Honey I Shrunk the Kids. Tossing around the idea of picking up a copy at some point.

La-La Land Records and Universal Studios proudly present the twentieth title within the acclaimed Universal Pictures Film Music Classics Collection – TORN CURTAIN, a remastered and expanded limited edition CD release of the original motion picture score to the 1966 dramatic thriller directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock, and starring Paul Newman and Julie Andrews. This special release, produced in partnership with Universal Music Enterprises, showcases the original film score, composed and conducted by John Addison (THE ENTERTAINER, TOM JONES) as well as the film’s unused score recording by Bernard Herrmann (VERTIGO, PSYCHO).

With ’60s era pop sensibilities infused throughout, composer John Addison’s score to TORN CURTAIN marked a musical departure for Hitchcock, providing a notable contemporary style and sound for its time. Addison’s work lends a bright sense of fun and romance to the film, in addition to expertly satisfying the story’s requirements for drama and suspense. Composer Bernard Herrmann’s final work for Hitchcock is a darker, more traditional affair, demonstrating the renowned maestro’s excellence in the grand tradition of his previous collaborations with the director.

Produced, edited and mastered by Mike Matessino from high resolution transfers of pristine 3-track stereo vault masters, this special presentation features Addison’s score sounding better than ever, and expanded by almost double the running time of the 1966 Decca album. Herrmann’s unused score presents all material he captured during his one day of recording for the film. Herrmann’s material here is expanded by more than eight minutes beyond what was previously released in 1999. Limited to 3000 units, this CD release includes exclusive, in-depth liner notes by author Jeff Bond and sharp art direction by Dan Goldwasser.

TOPAZ: EXPANDED STEREO LIMITED EDITION LLLCD 1635
Universal Pictures Film Music Classics Collection
Music by Maurice Jarre
Limited Edition of 2000 Units
RETAIL PRICE: $21.98

La-La Land Records and Universal Studios proudly present the eighteenth title within the acclaimed Universal Pictures Film Music Classics Collection – TOPAZ, music by Maurice Jarre (LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, DOCTOR ZHIVAGO). Remastered and expanded beyond its previous soundtrack release, and in stereo for the first time, renowned composer Maurice Jarre’s original motion picture score to TOPAZ, the 1969 big-screen dramatic thriller starring Frederick Stafford and John Veron, and directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock, shines brilliantly throughout this deluxe limited edition CD release.

Vividly demonstrating Jarre’s remarkable versatility and invention, TOPAZ is a notable and unique work in the composer’s canon, finding the maestro experimenting with early synthesizers and colorful percussion, while also employing orchestra in expert fashion to support the film’s varied textures of drama, romance and suspense.

Produced, mixed, edited and mastered by Mike Matessino, from studio vault elements, this special limited edition of 2000 units features in depth, exclusive liner notes written by author Jeff Bond and classic art direction by Jim Titus.

Default Film and television music score/soundtrack releases on CD

McCrutchy, thanks for posting about the music score CD releases for Torn Curtain, Star Trek: The Original Series and Topaz. As well as the music scores, I've been wanting to get some of Hitchcock's films from the last few decades of his career, the best Blu-ray releases out there (I don't have a 4K set-up), Vertigo and Frenzy especially.

I need to get a move on if I want to get a copy of the expanded music score/soundtrack for Octopussy (the 40th anniversary release from last year), as I've found it still being sold somewhere.

The La-La Land Records limited edition CD release of The House on Sorority Row's music score is still available directly from them, and at Screen Archives (cheaper at La-La Land Records).

While checking Screen Archives for new releases this week, I spotted a new release for a seventies US TV mini-series called Backstairs at the White House (the label on the listing page stated as Buysoundtrax). It will be a 2-CD release and has a planned release of mid-May.

Spotted the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids music score CD release on Screen Archives earlier, an expanded edition, released by Intrada Records (have checked Intrada's website for this CD release).

Regarding Backstairs at the White House (see my previous post), that's listed on Intrada's website as well.

You know, I always forget to look on the SA website. I usually just order off the main sites~thanks for the reminder though, I'm going to go check out what Screen Archives has to offer

No problem. Screen Archives do have sales on their website, but I can't remember if they've had many for music score/soundtrack CD albums (they've had sales and I think discount code offers on DVD and Blu-ray titles (definitely with Classicflix and Twilight Time).

Funny thing is, I'm signed up to get their emails as well. I should pay more attention to them when I get one because they probably talk about sales and new releases, etc.

Like with getting DVD and Blu-ray titles, can only get the music score/soundtrack CD titles I want to get in bits, including the expanded album for Octopussy. Unless it was staring me in the face, I can't remember seeing that it was a limited edition release. I checked Intrada Records' website and it appears they may be having more stock in soon. Ideally, I'd purchase it from La-La Land Records as I'll have a second title I can add to another title I want to get (in other words, with the shipping costs, is it worth purchasing one title only from La-La Land Records or anywhere else?).

That is a tougher call for you. Since you are in the UK it is probably easier to wait until you have a bigger order to place. I've seen Intrada restock some titles in the past, but don't know enough about them to know how long it takes, etc.

Decided to order a copy of the CD release of the original Prom Night's music score/soundtrack album from Amazon UK. Wouldn't have been able to get the expanded music score/soundtrack album for Octopussy yet anyway, but I checked Screen Archives earlier and it's now no longer available. But at least I got one of the music CD titles crossed off my want list.

Nice, a solid pickup. I see SAE added Night Passage to their site today. That one is kind of tempting me
