Default Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot series

Quote:
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" could be returning to screens, according to Dolly Parton.

While Parton is best known as a country music legend, she was also an uncredited producer on the 1990s cult classic television series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, and the 1992 movie it is based on.

Parton's production company, Sandollar Productions, which the singer cofounded with her former manager, Sandy Gallin, coproduced all seven seasons of "Buffy" through its television production arm, Sandollar Television. It also coproduced the spinoff show "Angel" starring David Boreanaz.

"They're still working on that," Parton tells Business Insider, though she did not specify who exactly is involved in the project. "They're thinking about bringing it back and revamping it."

I hope they don't do a reboot it just sounds like a bad idea because no one can play buffy like Sarah Michelle Gellar she made that show what it was she was so perfect in the role' I cant see anyone playing buffy but Sarah it would be a mistake if they did.

Maybe they can recreate her using AI with Sarah Michelle Gellar’s permission?

Or, you know, cast an unknown, like they did for the original series.

Depending how they go about it it could be interesting or a total waste of time. One thing I wouldn't be interested in is a remake of the old show, either bring back the original cast or do something new.

Not to quibble, but pretty sure SMG was a soap star before being cast as Buffy. Buffy was just her mainstream breakout.

Seems weird to say a sci-fi show was a mainstream breakout, but Buffy was one of those rare shows.

Yes. A 20-odd years later mini-series that could spawn a new spin-off, or a reinvented show. A straight remake seems pointless.

Yeah something new in that world could be cool. Definitely don't need a straight-up remake.

She won a Daytime Emmy for her role on All My Children, which she held from 1993 to 1995.

As for a Buffy reboot, I agree its pretty much pointless. I felt the original show ran way too long, and Joss Whedon made some creative decisions I personally didn't care for. The same thing happened with the spinoff Angel, which I also ditched about halfway through.

Do the people who are complaining about remakes and reboots realize that the 1997 show is also a reboot?

I prefer to think of "bringing it back and revamping it" as meaning "going back to the original negatives and making new HD transfers".

Yeah, I know...

Buffy: The world is what it is. We fight, we die. Wishing doesn't change that.
Giles: I have to believe in a better world.
Buffy: Go ahead. I have to live in this one.

You didn't like the direction the previous show went in so you're against a new show that goes in a different direction?

I'd say it depends on which writers they bring in, and what mentality they want to give the various characters. James Marsters said in a recent interview that originally, the vampires on the show were supposed to be a metaphor for overcoming the problems of adolescence. But at some point, Joss Whedon steered the narrative away from that, urging the audiences to sympathize with the monsters instead of Buffy and her friends. James also mentioned that if the program were made today, there'd be much less male chauvinism going on. Apparently, Whedon treated some of the cast members very badly during the original run, and a few of them have spoken up about it.

The craziest thing is I just found out Dolly Parton produced Buffy. That's awsome.

Back in the 90's the thing that REALLY made Buffy stand out was the female lead kicking ass. Obviously there was some others like Xena but, it actually wasn't that common.

Nowadays every lead female character is an ass kicking heroine and this new Buffy will just be another in a long list.

Agreed. Every day, Dolly Parton gets a little more awesome. It's a law of nature at this point.

It had other qualities, but that was definitely one of the hooks to draw in new viewers. I think what many fear about the reboot is that is will be the same hooks, but without the other qualities that made it great. Can't say I don't wonder about the same.

I did not know all that. I like learning new things about movies/TV.

So, I should say, maybe they can find another award-winning soap actor for the leading role.

Reboot it. I don't want a continuation of the original series. I don't want or need to know how miserable the characters have been over the last twenty years.

Yeah plus Whedon is scum so a reboot is fine by me.

You don't have to reboot or reunion. Reunions never work.

You can just continue. "In every generation there is a chosen one" remember? Buffy(SMG) can come back in the Giles role for this generations new slayer.

In the penultimate episode of the first season Buffy and the new scooby gang are about to face their toughest challenge yet and Buffy has to call in some help. The final scene is Angel, Cordellia, Willow, Xander and Faith turning up to help kick ass for the final episode.

If anyone with a modicum of common sense is involved with this new show, that is the way to go because then you have the old fans and the new fans in your pocket.

This is 2024 however and I'm sure they want writers whom have never seen the original because they want to 'subvert expectations'. Even with Dolly cracking the whip this will probably be terrible.

You obviously don't remember the series finale.
