I will watch through the Severin 4K release tomorrow, but as it stands now, a full comparison doesn't seem to be necessary as the difference between the two 4K releases doesn't seem to differ much regarding picture and sound.
There seem to be some extras difference and the Severin have subs for both the english and italian audio whereas the 88 Films only have subs for the italian dub. I'm 100% going with the Severin here as I want subs whenever possible and extras are of little consequence for me. |

I also always buy both 88 and Severin releases of each of these Italian gore-horrors, whenever available, to support each of the labels participating in this endeavour. Which version I'll ultimately choose as my go-to is going to be based on some combination of damage clean-up efforts, better encode, and more ideal color saturation/color timing on my particular HT gear. I'm looking forward to seeing what Severin did here, and agree that it's a very nice benefit whenever correct new subtitles are included in a new release. May the best man win.
It's really just awesome that we're at a period in the growth of the UHD platform where we now have multiple competing releases to choose between from various boutiques, for titles like Burial Ground! I love collecting these films, and am thrilled that they've been given this level of love and attention, and that they didn't dead-end on standard blu ray. Now, where are my 4k uhds of Anthropophagous and Zombie 3????!!!!! Gimme gimme!!!! Those titles are also ripe for some competing Severin and 88 uhd releases, just like we saw in the blu ray era. Two more big Italian gore-horror must-haves on my uhd wants short-list. Last edited by DaylightsEnd; 02-15-2024 at 09:30 AM. |

Joe D'Amato is severely underrepresented on 4K. Anthropophagus is a balls to the wall genre classic- where the hell is it!?! Actually, are there ANY D'Amato films on 4K yet?? I also desperately need Caribbean Papaya on 4K.

I'll eat my own intestines if Anthropophagous doesn't receive a UHD at some point.

I think Absurd is the stronger of the two. Of course I'm tempted to buy them in 4K. |

![]() Vintage Italian gore-horror, as you’ve already discovered, is a distinctly acquired taste. And since I seem to recall you bought Burial Ground last year, hated it, sold it, then discovered you’d been infected by it, re-purchased it, re-watched it, found it enjoyable, and came to accept that it has a place in your collection, there’s a good chance you may warm up to these as well. Once you’ve gotten a belly-full of putrid zombie-cannibal goodness, there’s probably no turning back for you. They both certainly belong in the sort of video nasty collection you’re starting to build, and you can rest assured there will most definitely never be anything like them ever made again in our time. Keep in mind, these two shambling atrocities are not exactly chock full of high adventure and big fast-paced excitement, per se. Instead, they have gobs of dark, deliberate, brooding atmosphere. They plod along methodically in a very corpse-like manner toward increasingly horrific happenings, unfolding almost like junior Hammer films gone horribly wrong. Anthropophagous has a fantastically oppressive, wonderfully isolated location shoot on a Greek island that’s as much a crucial part of the film’s dread as the actors themselves and the horrible goings-on that gradually befall them. Absurd is arguably a bit of an Itali-gore reimagining of Halloween II (1980). Watch the trailers for each, at a bare minimum. Maybe read a bit through the forum threads for the prior blu rays. If you find either title even remotely appealing, I say jump in head-first. There’s a good reason that multiple boutiques have continued to release both of these titles over the years on just about every single home video format that’s come down the pike, and the twisted madness fortunately continues on with uhd. Whether you ultimately click with them will simply come down to personal taste. Last edited by DaylightsEnd; 02-15-2024 at 10:18 AM. |

I love Tisa Farrow, George Eastman, Joe D'Amato, video nasties, and Italian gore flicks....so it feels like getting the 4K is a must for the collection. |

^ We were just discussing these very two films barely 48 hours ago!
Let's come up with two more Italian films to will into existence. My votes: Macabre (L. Bava) and Amazonia aka Catherine Miles Story. I'm probably the only fan of that last one, though. |
