We finally see a lossless surround mix from Pearl Jam for one of their studio albums, after frustratingly seeing a mish-mash of 360 and lossy Atmos for several classic albums on streaming platforms. With a strong lead single, Dark Matter arrives on CD+Blu-ray and other configurations April 19th, 2024.
Nick Rives and Josh Evans handle the Atmos mixing duties as has been the case since Gigaton. Official band store: https://shop.pearljam.com/products/p...am-dark-matter More from SDE here: https://superdeluxeedition.com/news/...m-dark-matter/ This is a wide release and is already available via multiple vendors across the globe including Bull Moose, ImportCDs, CD Japan, etc. ![]() |

excited for this one, wasn't really a fan of Gigaton
Already signed up for a tickets (not a Ten Club Member though) In May 2022 I was all set to go to the show that night, had tix as soon as they went on sale, however they cancelled hours before the show because two crew members got COVID. I was fine if that was the reason but they outright canceled and didn't reschedule for later in the fall, during the second leg, or last year when they played a short US leg. However they did put us back on the schedule for this May! This will be my first time seeing them since Bridge School in 2014 but first full show in maybe 15-20 years. Prior to that I had seen them probably 10 times or so, lost count. |

I almost pulled the trigger on this. But then I realized that I only listen to Backspacer, Lightning Bolt and Gigaton maybe once a year and I don't think I actually get all the way through them. Still listen to Ten, Vs and Vitalogy a lot. Hope those of you who are looking forward to the new album dig it. Nice that they are doing an atmos mix, too.

Only $24 at Walmart US
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pearl-Jam...-CD/5410505683 Hopefully with prices like this, they move enough units to have them consider doing CD+Blu-ray releases for Ten and Vs. |

gave Gigaton another run through the other day and not really any songs I love like on Backspacer and Lightning Bolt but it is comparable in that it starts strong for about the first 5-6 songs and then kind of just peters out.
Gonna try Riot Act sometime soon, this was another one I could never get into. |

After paying $22 to Canada Customs trying to save money by ordering three Blu-ray audio titles from iMusic.dk to save on shipping, my Dark Matter Blu-ray arrived today along with Big Big Train and Moon Safari (Air).
Wow, what a difference the Atmos makes over the terribly-mastered stereo mix. Wide open dynamics, adventurous surround mix and lovely deep, tight bass...I'm enjoying this like I haven't enjoyed a Pearl Jam album since Yield first hit. Hope the other Atmos mixes get to Blu-ray soon! |

This album is really puzzling me. I can barely stomach listening to this because Ed's vocals sound so robotic. They sound like they have Auto-Tune on them and I physically wince when it's really active/noticeable. No other people seem to be bothered about this or care. I have been reading reactions to the album on Reddit and forums and they are all over the board for you name it. No one seems to mention this, but it's huge for me. I do see some talk about production and compression on the recordings.
I enjoy the first track, Scared of Fear. I saw the live version on Howard Stern and Ed's vocal sounded fine and natural. I don't understand why they didn't have the album sound like that. I remember thinking Gigaton was pretty good, but I haven't listened to it in a while. I just put on the first track of Gigaton and Ed's vocals sound normal to me on that track. |

Listening to the ATMOS mix on my PS5 using my 3D Pulse headphones and it sounds so much better than the CD. Also, whoever designed the last four PJ CD packaging should be beaten to death with them. I could have listend to the album three times in the time it took to get the discs out the first time.

haven't checked back in since album release, I really like, don't love it. Better than Gigaton and probably better than Lightning Bolt.
The mix does sound a bit hollow/tinny but not enough to take away from my enjoyment. I went to the show in Sacramento on Monday night and they were great as usual. It was the first time I had seen a solo show of them in around 20 years or so (had seen them a couple times at Bridge School in that time). Had great seats and loaded up on merch. The show specific merch was seriously lacking compared to the Vancouver and Portland shows. I was going to pass on the poster but my wife was with me and made the executive decision to grab it, it has grown on me. I got a hat, shirt, beer koozie and stickers as well. Debating going to see them at Bottle Rock next weekend if I can find a deal on a one day ticket. |
