Default Any Audio-only BD Titles Planned?

I'm really interested in this. Though I still prefer DSD to PCM, I would be really interested in some 192/24 stereo and surround audio titles on BD. Is there anything like this planned or announced?

I don't think an audio variant of BD has been officially announced.
I may be mistaking there though...

Speculations, even by BDA members yes. But an official annoucement of a BD-Audio format... Haven't seen it yet.

Oh, I didn't realise that. I sort of assumed, anyhow, that all it took was to make a BD disc with just audio on it and maybe some minor menu options. I don't really see what else would be needed for an audio-only release anyway.

What could be released, are special music BDs, like the music DVDs now (not the DVDA or SACD), but then with a higher sound quality. Wikipedia says
Quote:
Blu-ray discs support encoding in up to 24-bit/192 kHz for up to six channels, or up to eight channels of up to 24-bit/96 kHz encoding.
So I believe 6 channels with 24bit/96 kHz would be sufficient for a nice audio disc.

I'd rather have 6 channels of 192/24. Leave the 96/24 for DVD-A.

So, it is already possible to do an audio-only BD release. This is what I thought.

actually he commented later that it was an "early plug for the clearly superior format" i dont know what that means
but there is plans to release the former group Coil's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coil_%28band%29 complete back catalogue on a single blu-ray disc, some 60+ releases, i would assume in wav.

Not sure how many R&B fans there are out there, but there's a John Legend BD that came out today... It's an awesome disc, as I've seen the DVD. I'll give comments once I view the BD.

I like a few classic U2 songs like one,but I don't think I'm a big enough fan to pick it up.

I am not a big fan of Contemporary R&B, but I did pick up his SACD last winter just to show Sony my support for the format (along with the Duran Duran Astronaut SACD) and much to my surprise, I enjoyed it. I was just listening to it again this past Sunday. He strikes me as retro with a contemporary bent. A lot of the music is reminiscent of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye and Al Green, IMO.

What is the BD about? Is a live show? is it actually in HD or is it SD content?

They should remaster all the Pink Floyd albums in blu-ray surround sound. Speaking of that The Wall would be cool on BD if they could re-master the audio+video!

The BD is his show from the House of Blues... I'm not sure if it is SD or HD concert, I'll have to throw it in to check. I assume its HD because there was already a DVD made of the same show. It would be rather redundant to rerelease the same thing over again just on a different format.

Well, yeah, I meant is it 44.1/16, 48/24, 96/24, etc., assuming it's PCM or Dolby THD or something like that. Or is it DD or dts? In which case, being lossy anyway, I don''t care about the initial resolution.
