I suspect that's likely the deal, in that this one was ready to go, ala "The Score" and that helped sway Kino to release it.

Will buy just for James G Rip.
Some cheesy stuff within the prison but still a pretty good movie.

This movie was a total box office disaster that I've scarcely run into anyone talking about in all the years since it came out. Fletch was at least one of the highest grossing films of its year and actually does have a cult following.

It's probably that there's already a 4K master Paramount put together available that explains it a little, but it's still a really odd choice of title to put out in a format where we're always told the margins are so thin for success.

Don’t know how I’ve never seen or even heard of this film. A quick glance at a trailer tells me it’s a safe blind buy. A movie about a prison for disgraced soldiers. That’s different.

I saw this film, released by DreamWorks, back during it's theatrical exhibition. It's pretty good.

Loved this back in the day. Robert Redford and Tony soprano. This is good drama. Strong stuff here.

Explosive star-power meets spectacular action when Robert Redford (3 Days of the Condor) goes up against James Gandolfini (TV’s The Sopranos) in this powerhouse action-thriller. His service to his country made him a hero. But one mistake made him a prisoner. For General Eugene Irwin (Redford), it’s just a matter of serving out his sentence—until he makes the shocking discovery that his fellow inmates are being murdered. Now, Irwin is taking command one last time—and unifying the inmates in a desperate battle to overcome a brutally corrupt system and show the world the truth. Directed by Rod Lurie (The Contender), The Last Castle crackles with action, drama and a top-notch cast that includes Mark Ruffalo (Avengers: Infinity War), Paul Calderon (King of New York), Clifton Collins Jr. (187), Robin Wright (Unbreakable) and Delroy Lindo (Get Shorty).

Preorder is up on Amazon. $39.95. Hopefully the price drops a bit before the release date, otherwise Kino Lober's website has it for $26.57.

DVDCompare (erroneously?) claims this has a new commentary but not the DVD commentary.

It's a commentary with Director Rod Lurie and the same one that is found on Paramount's 2021 Blu-ray release.

I watched the bonus features on the Blu Ray I rented. They talk about its box office and why it flopped. A big part was 9/11 and iirc there was little marketing for this film because of that.

Maybe it’s me but I have never been able to sit through a movie Robert Redford was in. He’s just so bland as an actor.
