On a serious note, reading the synopsis of the book this is based on, it sounds like this is going to scratch that Call Me by Your Name sequel itch without having to deal with the whole Armie Hammer situation.

In “Separate Rooms,” 30-something Leo travels across Milan, Paris, London and Florence, while Thomas is a young Berlin-based pianist who is temporarily living in Paris when he first intersects with Leo. The book is divided into three parts, called “movements,” which alternate between flashbacks and reflections. After meeting in Paris, the lovers begin a long affair, meeting and traveling together in different European cities over a three-year period. The two meet when they wish, but live separately, secluding themselves in their respective loneliness, though they often write each other. At one point, Thomas starts an affair with a girl, which makes Leo deeply jealous. Then Thomas is diagnosed with an illness that will lead to his death in his hometown of Munich.

A large portion of the book, which begins with Leo being called to Munich to say goodbye to his former lover, details Leo’s mourning and his gradual recovery as he reminisces while traveling to England and the U.S.

Do we really need yet another gay movie where the gay couple can’t be together in the end because one of them has died or ends up leaving? This whole genre of gay cinema is so exhausting at this point. They can NEVER BE HAPPY and I feel like Hollywood just loves punishing its gays (especially when it earns awards).

Josh O'Connor is starring in and currently filming another gay romance opposite Paul Mescal, The History of Sound.

His breakout role was in God's Own Country, yet another gay romance. So this is definitely familiar territory for him.

The novel is pretty good and I've enjoyed all of O'Connor's films I've seen, so I'm definitely gonna check this one out.

Unlike other Guadagnino projects, seems like this one is actually happening and will likely be his next movie, seeing as we're getting casting announcements.

Also, it's quite impressive how many high profile arthouse directors Léa Seydoux has worked with, and she's not even 40 yet. Good for her.

Luca Guadagnino To Shoot Mysterious Film in Italy This Summer

So, the Turin Film Commission has published a casting call for a new “international movie” to be directed by Luca Guadagnino. They’re looking for locals—particularly Northern Italians—as extras. Production is set to begin this month and wrap in September.

Which of Guadagnino’s unmade projects this might be is anybody’s guess. However, it could very well be “Separate Rooms,” starring Léa Seydoux—a project that Josh O’Connor recently dropped out of. As it happens, O’Connor is expected to begin production on Joel Coen’s next film, “Jack of Spades,” this month.

None of Guadagnino’s other projects in development appear to require an Italian setting. +
