For he is certain that possession of Khan’s mask and sword will enable him to rule the East and lead it to victory over the hated Western world. When British scientists in the Gobi Desert discover the tomb, Fu captures and tortures them in his elaborate Torture Garden, hoping they will take him to the treasure he craves. But an unexpected traitor has other plans for the doctor. At last it's finally happening.

"A new1080p HD master from a 4K scan of best preservation elements" stated in the description. The elements must have been in rough shape but it should look good now. Probably why it took so long for WAC to get this one out. They really take pride in their releases, IMO.

I think the long wait will be worth it. Many thanks George and everyone else helping to bring this Karloff title to blu-ray.

This movie is so twisted, I'm almost surprised it's being released. The dialogue is outrageous, and there's quite a bit of S/M perpetrated on the heroes by Myrna Loy and her evil daddy. I'm glad I can finally retire my 20 year old DVD.

Yup, Humphrey Bogart's only horror movie (I think it was some sort of punishment from Jack Warner), as I remember from the Legends set, the DVD looks very good, I'm sure it'll arrive on Blu-ray sooner than later. Meanwhile we have that lovely camp classic, The Mask Of Fu Manchu, it's been a few years since I've seen it, but I'm sure the commentary states that it's one of the most censored American films, as every state it was shown in demanded some cuts.

The film is probably the Chinese equivilant (in terms of victims) of THE BIRTH OF A NATION - it's noticeably much more racist than the earlier Warner Oland or later Christopher Lee Fu Manchus, which are fairly respectful to the Chinese on the whole. The reason for this is that the film was produced by Cosmopolitan, a Hearst company - and Hearst was waging a war, in words, against the Chinese at that point.

The film actually goes out of its way to condemn "all of Asia" as being a bunch of rapists (of white women) which is why it was a Japanese-American league that protested its re-release in the 1970s, resulting in cuts.

It is a ton of fun, it must be said, but not a film I'll probably be throwing up for the neighbours...
