What's your opinion?
If not a gamer, should I go with the PS3 instead of the Panasonic BD60? |

I don't know about the BD60 but the PS3 is made of yum,... it's pure awesome.
Edit- One thing to consider here though is your sound system. The PS3 outputs everything as PCM if you choose too so I bought a AVR that did well with multi-channel PCM and had access to every new audio format. I'm sure the BD60 bitstreams more formats and lots of people can't get enough of seeing stuff like DTS MA light up on their surround sound processor so that is a major deal. =Brian Last edited by bhampton; 08-11-2009 at 04:24 PM. |

200 people, 200 different opinions, at the end of the day u are going to use the player so you must decide which one to buy. Go to a shop and let them demo both to you and then decide which one is best for you.

From CNet on the Panasonic DMP-BD60K:
The good: Excellent image quality with Blu-ray movies; Profile 2.0-compliant; onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio Essential; access to YouTube and Picasa; Amazon On Demand streaming coming in May. The bad: Competitors offer more next-generation features like built-in Wi-Fi, Netflix streaming, and onboard memory; operational speed slow compared with newest players. The bottom line: The Panasonic DMP-BD60 offers excellent image quality and reliable Blu-ray playback, but it doesn't have as many features as the competition. |

I would say 200 people...2 opinions given there seems to be only 2 answers here.
That said... My PS3 does have built in wifi so I don't know why that's listed as a con. My PS3 can see the music, pictures, and videos of all the computers on my home network... not sure about the BD60. Also,... sometimes when I have visitors before they leave we plug their camera into the PS3 and watch a slide show of photos they have taken while they were visiting (while listening to some music from the hard drive.) The PS3 is a bit more like a full fledged computer than just a Blu Ray player. Now... if you don't play games at all and really want to keep it that way then the BD60 (or some other player) is the obvious choice because if you hook up a network cable to the PS3 and hop onto the PS Network you will have over a hundred free game demos that are very fun to play. The only way you can be sure you won't play any of those free games is to make sure you don't buy a PS3. -Brian |

My PS3 recently got the YLOD about 3 months out of warranty, so I replaced it with the Panny BD-60. I'd say they are very comparable players. Load times, picture quality, audio quality... I haven't noticed a difference.
I will say that I like being able to bitstream the HD audio to my receiver, if for no other reason than the fact that I can SEE on my receivers display that the audio track I want, is the one being played. With the PS3, PCM is the only thing the receiver could display... so at the beginning of every movie I had to dig out the PS3 controller to see what the PS3 was outputting... because of course some studios default to the lossless track and some don't. I also liked that the BD-60 was MUCH easier to program with my Harmony remote, and of course it can be turned off and on with the universal remote without buying an expensive add-on device the PS3 would require. I never could fully program every control for the PS3 on my Harmony.... and still ended up having to pull out the PS3 controller to do some things. And if you don't lay that PS3 controller back down carefully enough avoid bumping one of the triggers... you find yourself FF or RW when you didn't mean to. Minor annoyances of course... but ones I don't have to deal with at all with the Panny. If you're a gamer, and the PS3 offers games you are interested in..... go for the PS3. If not, definately get the Panny. |

"Slowly, ever so slowly we're beginning to learn about the internal differences between Sony's new PS3 Slim and its chubby ancestry. We already knew that it supported BraviaLink while talk of "faster gaming" was introduced (suspiciously) yesterday; something that remains very much in doubt until we can confirm. Now we hear that the fatboy gone slim supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstream output to your receiver. Hear that audio nerds? Bitstream. See the HDMI chip on previous generations of the PS3 didn't support bitstream output of the new(ish) high def codecs like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. As such, the PS3 had to decode it internally before sending it over to your receiver via LPCM. A process that could garble the lossless audio depending on your setup. Even though the vast majority of people will never notice the difference (or even care), PS3 Slim owners can still kick back in smug satisfaction each time the TrueHD or DTS-HD MA indicators light-up on their receiver"
Ps3 now supports it ![]() im in the same boat, got the db60 for free, kind of want to sell it and nab a ps3 |
