Default Samsung BD-P1400 DTS-HD problem

I got my Samsung BD-P1400 from BB yesterday.

It says it can process DTS-HD & True HD, but my receiver is not recongnizing it.
I have an Onkyo SR-805, and using HDMI 1.3 compliant HDMI cable.
Played X-Men Final Stand, choose DTS-HD, receiver does not recognize it. It says DTS-ES. Played 300 the movie, same thing, TMNT same problem.

Am I missing something, or this POS is just that ... POS.

I was hoping somebody out there has this player and can tell me if we're experiencing the same problem.

Thanks for all your input

First, You have to set the player to output as Linear PCM.

Second, I dont belive it can decode DTS-HD Master, only DTS-HD High Resolution, which are two different forms, so playing the X-MEN DTS-HD Master wont work anyways.

Third, I didnt think the BD-P1400 came out till October? and bestbuy.com doesnt have it online either??

EDIT: OK, I see circuitcity.com has it out...

No need for a photo - we believe you! The 1400 is in the wild as of a few days ago.

OK - XMen has DTS-HD MA, so p1400 should not be able to decode it but TMNT or 300 should work based on the specs below.

***************************
X-Men: The Last Stand (Blu-ray)Audio
English: DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1
French: Dolby Digital 5.1
Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1

TMNT (Blu-ray)

English: Dolby TrueHD 5.1
English: Dolby Digital 5.1
French: Dolby Digital 5.1
Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1
***************************
300 (Blu-ray)
Audio
English: Dolby TrueHD 5.1
English: PCM 5.1
English: Dolby Digital 5.1
French: Dolby Digital 5.1

holy cow people, know the equipment you are commenting on. according to the samsung website, the player can decode dts-hd and has hdmi 1.3. according to my knowledge, the 805 is also hdmi 1.3 and can decode dts-hd. so, in theory, either piece can decode the dts-hd stream. my original question was to find out how he had set the player. after that, we could go from there.

also from a discussion a long time ago (search the home theater thread i believe), discs authored in what is known as "advanced mode" may not be able to pass on the stream because of the muxing from commentaries and what not. so, it was theorized that depending on the authoring of the disc that all players would need to do the decoding internally and pass on the stream via pcm.

edit: for all we know, the receiver says dts-es when it receives a dts-hd stream.

It's possible that Samsung is not listing "MA" as the DTS type, since there is also a DTS HR (high resolution) track that the player may be able to decode. Perhaps the site merely doesn't clearly identify the upscaled DTS that can be decoded.

I was under the impression that no current player can decode DTS-HD/MA at this time. The new Pioneer is said to output bitstream DTS-HD/MA for decoding in properly equipped receivers, and the new Denon player (available 12/07?) is supposedly the first player to internally decode DTS-HD/MA.

I hope this helps.

This thread might prove useful:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=900924

Having just joined here, I've found this to be a great site with a huge knowledge base. I have a very extensive home theater system, and just recently borrowed a Blu-Ray player from my dealer for home evaluation. After about 15 seconds, I was flabbergasted at the picture quality. The uncompressed audio tracks were incredible. I'm going to pick up a player that does all the internal decoding by itself, so waiting a bit longer is necessary.

Thanks,

Lee

well, this player afaik has not been released yet. yes there are a few in the wild already, but they were prob sold early. so technically, it is a current player yet, but if you look at the specs on the samsung website it clearly leads you to believe it can do it.

"upscaled" was meant to imply "improved". Sorry for any confusion. I don't think the 1400 will do bitstream out for DTS MA.

I wrote another post with a link to a discussion about this player, but it's in the moderation queue (I'm new here). If it appears, fine. If not, you may PM me for more info.

Go Blu-Ray!

The 1400 don't do Bitstream of anything but DD and DTS (Normal one), you need the 2400 to bitstream everything..

The 1400 DECODE TrueHD and DTS HD HR (ONLY HR not MA) into PCM, set you're player in PCM mode over HDMI and you'll have it.

It's this our buy the 2400...

The European BD-P1400 does according to the the test of the German home cinema magazine "Heimkino" bitstream of TrueHD and DTS-HD...
Itīs the first BD-Player that can output bistream of HD audio via HDMI.

But in Europe we donīt get the BD-P2400.

I called the SAMSUNG support line, and after talking to a clueless tech support, they transferred me over to the level 2 support group.

They tested their unit while I was on the phone with them, and they had the same issue. It's not passing the True-HD/DTS-HD audio via BITSTREAM, you have to use PCM, I have a PS3 that already does that. They said, they will try and fix it via firmware upgrade.

So I'm returning this one back to BB, I was looking for another player in the other room that's why I bought this unit. I'll play the return-game until I find one that will decode and pass DTS-HD/True HD audio via BITSTREAM.

Exactly what we told you.

You will have to wait till the holidays for a player that will pass bitstream.

You also do realize there is exactly ZERO difference between weather the player decodes or the receiver.
