I only saw this one time but thought it was kind of entertaining for the original with DeVito. The Producers here ran out of story ideas and is remaking this again...

The consumer is broken, there is a claim that new stuff is needed. Yet looking at the charts each year says something different.

Is the new stuff they put out any good though? That’s the key. Just being new isn’t enough. It has to be good and draw people in. Remember, many of the beloved classics we all love were new too at one point. So, not sure I’d blame this on the consumer, at least not entirely.

I get the point that it’s harder to get people to try out something new versus more MCU shlock, remakes or lame horror shit. Fair enough. But risks can lead to rewards. I think the idea here is that studios just don’t have any balls anymore.

How do people know the new stuff is good if they don't watch it?

Reviews for new stuff is entirely framed by what old stuff the critic can compare it to for the benefit of the potential audience. Stuff that doesn't accommodate that kind of comparison as easily gets short shrift or at best lukewarm reviews. You never really hear a movie being given credit for not doing the same shit or a variation on shit that the audience has seen before.

I haven't seen Megalopolis but it seemed obvious that a lot of critics were disarmed by the fact it was incomparable to most movies. And when that happens, movies get attacked for not letting the audience employ its tried and trusted critiquing methods. And start comparing it to other movies that have thwarted them in this way. See, Under The Silver Lake.

People like being told "This is like Coke, if you like Coke. But it's not like Pepsi, if you don't like Pepsi..... and this one is New Coke, or at least it's a lot like it, and improved. But it's ok if you like Pepsi too." People can easily get their teeth into those kinds of choices.

Exactly quite a few people have recommend movies and shows to them. Yet it always is the "I heard" or "Many people are saying" SSS2DD

Actually - Both Paradise and Adolescence were recommended to me and Im digging them, mostly. So far.

Movies are tougher as you have to go to the theater and I feel like Ive been burned more times by movies.

Looks abysmal. Unfunny, no chemistry between characters.

I had no ideal this was being made until a friend just forwarded to trailer to me. Looks interesting. Not sure if it will be as dark as The War of the Roses was. Reworkings seem to tame things down a bit.
