Ok i have Edward Scissorhands on Blu-ray and the sound codec is DTSHD-MA 4.0 i have a 7.1 set-up and sound comes out of the left, right, center, and the sub,not the surrounds but the rear surrounds (aka 6 and 7)? i'm confused shouldnt it only come out of the first four only? i'm useing a ps3 so thats decoding the sound and when i hit display it says DTSHD-MA 4.0 channels. i'm just wondering why its ouputing that way.

I don't have this BD, but is the dialogue coming out from the center speaker?

The mix had common LCR front with monaural surrounds as this was produced in era where common 70mm prints two of which
(Dolby format 42 was LCR MS monaural-surrounds and sub bass) (Dolby format 43 was LCR SS split-surrounds and sub bass) It was also one of few produced in CDS Cinema Digital Sound which was the first digital cinema sound format delivery. Only problem was the format wasn’t backward compatible with 35mm prints being sent out, often to the wrong cinema that doesn’t have CDS so the format only lasted a few short years before being axed. This is where Dolby labs succeed with Dolby stereo SR-D which can play full range spectrum sound over the LCR SS with sub bass similar to the 70mm format only increased lower end. It also had Dolby SR track to fall on, if the prints sprockets where damaged, this is where the digital bits are placed the analogue SR track was just next-door to the digital track. The surrounds monaural should be playing on the sidewall normal surrounds. But cinemas use surrounds all-around one large cluster for the sidewalls and one/half for the back wall to fully surround you. I’d use the manual finger to switch the surrounds centre back to sidewall surrounds. I Just re-listened monitored each of the four discrete only channels. Music is spread around on all-four channels with differences with each channel that make up artist musical score mix by Danny Elfman. Scoring mixer is Shawn Murphy who does a wonderful work on scoring mixes. Effects can be just about anywhere in the mix. Dialogue is centred on this mix while some tend to pan it over the LCR of or Left left-centre centre right-centre right of 70mm Todd-AO or (SDDS8 mix of today). Sometimes thou very rare dialogue is panned fully around depending on the scene or to what level the mixes what to use it for some dramatic proposes. Mission to Mars (200) has scene where dialogue pans from centre to right then side right surrounds onto the centre back and along the left side surrounds and back on to the centre channel. The score for Edward Scissorhands if it fails to bring a tears with its emotional moving impact then something must be wrong. Wow its heavenly score with choir voices and the arrangement of the instruments. ![]() Last edited by JBL4645; 02-04-2010 at 05:31 PM. |

I am sending the signal from my Panasonic player to a Sony OLED. I changed the output on my player from bitstream to PCM. The dialog and other sounds now play.
