Actually, Planet Earth BD outsells the HD DVD and has done for some time (since late June).

As of August 5, the numbers were roughly 8000 in favour of HD DVD, and that number diminishes each week. Eventually we will see the BD sell more than the HD DVD.

Man, I love the Planet Earth BD. We are about halfway through it now. It is incredible how much amazing photography they pack into each episode.

Great PQ, and no "pulsing white static" - that sounds like an issue with that particular rig to me.

I hope the Blue Planet series comes out soon.

Is the typical HD owner older than the typical BD owner? If so, that might have something to do with it.

But I'm 31 and love nature shows, and Planet Earth is definitely one of the best.

I think this more speaks of what is available on HD-DVD for movies. Since blu-ray has more blockbuster movies people are probably preferring to buy movies over PE. On the HD-DVD side of the house they don't have as good of a movie selection as far as blockbusters so PE is gettting their dollars.

PE is on my amazon list, but whenever I go to buy a bulk of movies, the movies get on the list and the PE series stays on the wishlist.

There are many reasons to buy Planet Earth on blu.

1) It is the best picture quality of ANY blu out there. No exaggeration. It will truly light up your 1080P set.

2) You might actually learn something (screams of fear emit from the huddled masses).

3) If you ever want to take a great nap, you can put on PE and within 20 mins...you will be sleeping like a baby.

But it is not that big of a deal that HD DVD is beating us here. The score I believe is 1,000,000,000,000 to 1 so I think that we are alright.

I already own PE and 300 so I probably won't buy another.

I resent that comment. I am a PS3 owner and I happen to like documentaries very much. Documentares will never achieve the popularity of movies like 300, but that has nothing to do with the PS3 specifically.
Im also a ps3 owner and I have planet earth as well. I understand that I'm in the minority though...

The PS3's demograhic is males, 15-35 or so. Typically the Xmen, 300, crank crowd (look how well it sold and its not that good of a movie).

Sorry you resent it...welcome to the minority.

Can anyone tell me what I'd want to buy Planet Earth? Forget the format and the picture. I'm not spending $70+ for something that's not interesting.

I'm just asking, because I don't know what it is aside from nature shots.

Relentless Enemies is coming to my library for sure. I love those types of shows.

And my wife was just asking me about documentaries, like the History channel.

Oh and Memoirs of a Geisha is already bought here. I love that film. I even have the very large authentic movie poster. I have to admit it was a "Blu-ray player seller" for me.

I was just sitting here wondering if movies like The Banquet, The Warrior, Emperor and the Assassin, Hero, C Tiger H Dragon, and others are coming to BLU.

That's the thing. It is interesting. The have 1080P footage of natural events that had never been filmed before. It is really interesting. Like I said, you can watch it and learn something new. It is engaging. It really is a great show. If you make time to sit down and watch movies, and want a change of pace form the blockbuster, this is a great title. If you don't buy it, fine I guess, just get a couple of other movies to make up for it.

Funny people are saying Planet Earth is the best looking BD.. but yet I would guess it shares the same encoding that the HD DVD version does.

So there's ample discussion? I guess my point is I don't want to just stare at nature and take a nap. I record this Sunrise earth or something show on HD for that.

Also, what's this about the UK version being better? Where do you get it and how do you know?

I watch TONS of documentaries. Everything from how vehicles for mining are built to WWII stuff to how they make Twinkies.

Oh, and if Meerkat Manor ever hits BLU, I'd buy it.

I think a big reason why it would look so good is because it was filmed entirely in HD. A lot of movies are filmed with multiple cameras and some not as great as others (which is why you'll see differing levels of picture quality in the same movie).

First, I have only been able to find the BBC version. It will say on the packaging that it is a BBC production. It would say Discovery if it was the 'Merican version. Yeah there is narration, it isn't a silent movie. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I watch them over just to see them and because it is genuinly educational.

Planet Earth was my second blu-ray purchase and well worth it. Anyone who does not have it should buy it if they have any interest at all...and even if you don't have any interest at all, it might surprise you. It's a beautiful series.

Okay thanks. If I decide to get it, I'll look for BBC.

$67 at Amazon and says BBC. Guess this is the 1080p.

I just looked at a couple shots and it is breathtaking.

Bond's got it right. The commercial plays incessently on Discovery, and it is really misleading as to what to get. They keep mentioning DVD in the same breath as HD-DVD and Blu-ray. They kind of mention Blu-ray as an "oh yeah". THere is no other reason this title would still be selling in any significant way, otherwise.

The BD version has been outselling the HD version for almost two months now on a weekly basis. Give it time and it will overtake HD in total sales.
