Japan Serial Experiments Lain - Japan

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2BqB...eature=related - Better Video

Leaked Comiket 76 trailer confirming it is coming to Blu in Japan. I have not seen any formal announcement but as soon as I do I will post it along with the specs (if possible). I doubt this will have English subs.

That is fantastic news. Thanks alot for the info. Lain is my favorite anime series and I was wandering if it would ever get a blu release since it's not a widescreen show. Now the question is will it ever see an Amarican release since Pioneer went down?

Good news indeed. I'm a Serial Experiments fan, too. Looking forward to seeing reviews of the Japan BD release.

If Funimation picks it up then I say yes, if not then no. But even if Funimation picks it up they will probably try and get money from the dvd version first before they go with a Blu-ray release.

Too early, I think they're still in the middle of the restoration.

Keep your eyes out here. It will eventually show up in Geneon-Universal's database with specs and a date.

Also, I have updated the first post with a better version of the trailer.

That would be awesome to see this anime on Blu! Cool video!!! Interesting though that they use the BoA for the talent...i thought that Korean (and JPop singer) would be designated as BoA and the band who sung the song as Boa.

Nevertheless, look forward to its release! And I agree...Haibane Rinmei would be cool too!

Whoever did the trailer was definitely confused. On the other hand the band isn't exactly consistent with the use of their name either. I think they are officially bôa on the albums but are frequently credited as BOA elsewhere.

Several Japanese websites are listing this as having a Japanese and an English stereo track. So this might end up like Tenchi Muyo (English dub but no sub).

Also seems to come in a Special Edition and Limited Edition. It is around 220 USDs.

I still have the original Pioneer DVDs. What a great show. I'd love to see this on Blu in the US.

I appreciate the info, if you find out weather or not it has English subtitles please let us know. I would consider importing it but I don't know if I want to be stuck watching the series with the English dub. I don't mind the English dub but the original Japanese is important to me as well and I need the English subtitles for that.

Of course if they planned to release it here in the states I would wait but it seems like all of Pioneer's titles here in the states have been left with no mention as if no one is interested in picking up the rights to some of Pioneer's old titles and selling them here. Champloo being the only one I have heard about thanks to Funimation. I wander if Funi would be interested in Lain considering it did pretty well here in the US.

I wish Funimation was a little more open about its future plans. I still have no idea if they plan on finishing the Hellsing Ultimate series and it looks like it is being released on blu in Japan as well. I would hate to pay huge prices for imports if they plan to release them here but you really can't tell whats going to happen anymore.

I once owned this series on laserdisc. I remember fansubbing the whole series using scripts I found online (this was before it was released in the West, and even before DVD, I believe). Unfortunately, the scripts had to be rewritten a lot so that the dialogue would make sense (I guess the translator's first language was not English), and this was not an easy task what with all the babbling about technology. It was so time consuming (had to time the subtitles as well), I couldn't watch the show again for a long time. I haven't seen it in years (although I own the rare region 1 DVD set that came packaged in a lunchbox with a CD single), but I'm tempted to get the shiny new BD version.

Awesome news but the price tag means I'll be saving a while. Hope it doesn't sell out before then.
