I posted this in the original Dexter thread way back when...but I still say the original ending COULD have worked, and in my mind, been perfect, with the addition of just one scene.
Deputy Chief Tom Matthews shows up in Dexter's cabin, having tracked him from Miami. They don't say anything to each other, and Dexter notices a set of knives on the table. Matthews just leaves as Dexter realizes, silently, that Matthews knew all along. |

The framing device of Dex’s life flashing before his eyes is perfect for this show, the updated but the same opening credits/theme are perfect, the blood theme on the outro, love all that.
The rest of the show, actors & setting, all very promising. Thoroughly enjoyed the first episode. |

I didn't even know this was coming out I turned on paramount plus and it was the first thing I saw. So naturally I just pressed play. Going in that completely blind I mostly loved it. I can see all of these people becoming Thier older selves eventually. While retreading the ideas to refresh people is a little monotonous the actual acting and story were handled fantastically. Loved it so far.

I liked the premier episode. Good opening, a funny little way of saying, this is how Dexter continues after New Blood. I got good laugh from one of the recast. While that character is barely seen, the line he says and the way he delivers it, you know who it is.
![]() I thought the Captain was being portrayed as Matthew's, which led me to believe the actor wasn't doing a lot to be like Capt. Matthew's, but I see that it's Capt. Aaron Spencer. That explains why it didn't remind me of Matthews I have to say, it looks promising. While you know where it will go, they're setting things up in a way that has me wondering, I wonder what this character is about, what happens, and why weren't they in the original show? Dexter narrating this is perfect. |

I guess I'll be the contrarian then. Episode one failed to hook me. The main guy just doesn't have Michael C. Hall's charm or ability to command the screen. And the story of Dexter's first kill is ground that the original series has already covered, so it felt like a rehash of what's already been done (in a better way). Just goes to show that just because you have the same characters, music, sets, etc., you just can't replicate that original series, and boy, did they try.

Best thing about this show is it feels like classic Dexter. Back when those early seasons were broadcast it felt like the best show on TV.
