Had no idea it was a trilogy. Why are the first two live-action while the third was animated?

"Mamoru Oshii had wanted to do what ultimately became Jin-Roh several years prior. It was originally planned to be the third and final live-action feature film of the Kerberos trilogy, but its production wasn't possible until 1994, while Oshii was already working on Ghost in the Shell. As the filmmaker wasn't able to produce two films in the same time but didn't want someone else to direct his final episode, Oshii decided that the third episode would be an anime instead."

I've heard from many sources that this movie is the first chronologically, and the order is Jin-Roh -> StrayDog -> Red Spectacles.

I know the order is not that important, but I was wondering if it's true.

Not sure, but Sevakis said his Discotek release is the same as the UK one. IBandai Visual did their own release too so there's at least two different discs. I don't know what aspect ratio the DVD releases use but Bandai Visuals is different than Discoteks.

"Red Spectacles" is the first live-action film by Mamoru Oshii, director of "Ghost in the Shell". We are going to restore the 35mm negative film recovered from the now defunct Tokyo Developing Laboratory in 4K quality and preserve it for future generations.

And the timestamps on the Blu-ray files is from 2024 (2024-03-14) so it looks like it was re-authored too. No idea if the encode is any different though.

The slipcover is the same as that one, only it's now a rounded-corner one like newer Distotek releases.

I don't want to say that this cover looks bad, but in my opinion, this cover along the slipcover is in its art style more suitable for a manga or book than for an anime release. I prefer the straight cover with "Fuse armored in front of the the Moon" as used in many releases.
