Default Punky Brewster(1984)

So who else is a fan?

I remember watching this one back in the 80's. Well at least the first two seasons. Not sure if I did see seasons 3 and 4 until I got the DVD set.

Love this show but I'm afraid to watch the reboot based on how so many of the other ones played out.

I used to love Punky Brewster.

The new show was such a letdown. Soleil Moon Frye/Punky deserved better. She's still great.... The only reason I kept watching was to finally see
[Show spoiler]what happened to Punky's mom

So does the new series finally explains what happened to her mother?

Short answer
[Show spoiler]Yes

Long answers

Yes. Punky gets a phone call from her in the first episode. And she's in the last two episodes. ....

[Show spoiler]She was an alcoholic. Punky follows her to an AA meeting

A few years ago, there was a graphic novel based on the show that actually showed her mother abandoning her daughter, and
[Show spoiler]it also depicted her as a thief. I hope that didn't carry over to this.

The irony of this coming back in live-action is now we're getting animated reboots of live-action shows when this already got one and was still on the air the year the live-action version was off the air.

I really wish the original series answered the questions of her mother but the last two seasons seems to have just dropped the whole issue.

Did anyone watch the animated series?

Who else owns the DVD set of the original series?

I watched it some as a kid in reruns during the 90s. The only episode I remember is one in which Punky and her friends play Hide & Seek in the courtyard. Cherry decides to hide in an old broken refrigerator and goes without being found for awhile. Then finally someone checks the fridge and Cherry's lifeless body slumps out. She was okay in the end, but the lesson/message was received by me as I never forgot that episode.

The show had a great theme song and I can still remember some of the lyrics. Punky's fashion style was awesome and I thought she was really cool in general.

Yeah, Punky herself did have an interesting look and style. Though there is a big difference of how she dressed in seasons 1 and 2 vs seasons 3 and 4.

The animated series was very strange but it was the 80's and magical mascot characters were really common.

I think of this show every time I see an abandoned refrigerator outside.

There was the very strange episode of them stuck in a cave and telling a ghost story.

The late Benji Gregory was on this show in the hourlong backdoor pilot "Fenster Hall" that also introduced Mike Fulton to the show.

It was shot on video (the live look).

It will never be released on Blu. At least not with Blu Ray quality.
