Has this ever been given a pass/upconvert? I know it was most likely shot in 1080, but it could do with some TLC.

I recall seeing it again when the first high def sets became affordable, and the effects suddenly took a noticeable hit.

It was shot on film, but finished as a 2K DI. I don't have the existing UHD, but the word is that the HDR grade is a little wacky.

The old Blu-ray is a VC-1 encode, so that could probably be improved a little, but with Jackson in his current super-degrain mindset, I'm not sure it would be worth it.

I wasn't able to order this through Amazon UK, it wouldn't let me checkout, and is now unavailable. It's currently available again on Orbitdvd, I was able to order from Golden Disc. This is the first time I bought this movie, I did see this movie in the theater when it came out. Too bad all these collector editions aren't available in the U.S. directly, but at least we can import them.

That’s a beautiful set and I love the movie. I wouldn’t mind paying the high price if there was a better UHD. Less processed look.

Steelbook only without all the other stuff is also available in France and Germany. I preordered from Orbitdvd back when they first listed it (before they had to take down the listing). But sites like Orbit and Golden Disc aren't 100% guaranteed to get some or all of their preorder stock. So, we still might end up out of luck.

If they revisited the video I'd bite. Love the movie but I have to watch it with shades on. This set looks very, very good, though.

Mine’s still en route to the U.S. from Zavvi. I’d prefer to order from an Orbit or Atomic but they charge immediately and this year has been too fast and furious with releases for me to handle that.
