There’s already a Columbo thread where the new release is being discussed:

I thought that thread's strictly about the old Season 1 release only. My bad.

I wanted to move the discussion over here from the "Columbo Complete First Season" thread since we are now talking about this new Complete 1970s set from Fabulous Films.

Further to my mention of the sound problem I encountered on Kino's set (specifically on the Season 2, Episode 2 'The Greenhouse Jungle' where all the dialogue is weirdly skewed to the left of the sound field while music and sound effects are as normal, resulting in a, for me, highly distracting viewing experience), CouncilSpectre kindly checked his FF set and didn't find anything noticeably amiss. It may be more noticeable listening on headphones which I tend to do when watching Blu-rays since I live in a shared accomodation and wish to avoid disturbing my fellow lodgers especially late at night but if anyone else who has acquired this latest Fabulous Films set would be able to check and chime in with their thoughts, I'd be most grateful. I really want to buy a problem-free Columbo set (which seemingly is an elusive desire!) but I am reluctant to pay the asking price of the FF set if it merely replicates the anomalies of the KL set (which I already purchased then returned since it had missing/duplicate discs). Communications with both KL and FF on this specific sound issue (I won't even get into the much-discussed visual issues on certain episodes as raised elsewhere on this forum!) have proved fruitless (ie. they both ignored me!)

It will be mine!! I first watched Columbo in 2015, and I've hoped and prayed for the complete series on Blu-ray ever since! (I know Kino has just released the Revival/Return but I'd rather a Region B release if one is available)

It will likely have the same pan/scan issues as Kino's.

Odds on they'll be using the archival 4K masters created by Universal as used by Kino, so they'll have the same framing.

Inevitable I think. We can look forward to plenty of chopped off heads and such....

Anybody volunteering to do a in-depth full screen capture comparison between the the usa, france, japan and uk releases? hehe

Hope Fabulous releases Night Gallery on BD without the strong DNR the Kino release had.

I have bought many UK releases because they had less filtering (or the blacks on usa releases were lifted). Fabulous' Blame it on Rio was one of those I bought.

Same masters does not equal same end result.

That's a fair shout, but FF don't have the resources to undertake too much work on a 2000+ minute series. The best hope for this is one in particular is that Kino undertook the filtering and the untouched original masters are what Universal give to FF.

Fingers crossed but I'll probably just wait this one out until someone has it in hand I think.

The Final Years:

1.33:1 and 1.78:1 so presumably exactly the same as the Kino release…

£80, or £64 with the HMV discount if they match that price when they list it.
