So "Xbox sucks" because they didn't announce a new Gears, then a few minutes later they announce a new Gears and it's not good enough because it's a "stupid prequel"

I mean story wise do we really want another one with old man Phoenix and characters that aren't very popular? I know I don't. This was the only logical way besides setting it during the first couple of games.

They finally make a new Gears game and it’s based on a story that’s almost 20 years old and they are going backwards instead of telling a story that isn’t finished. This game is 20 years too late.

It certainly looks great, although I wish they clarified whether or not the "in engine" cinematic was Xbox or PC (probably PC). Hopefully we will get to play it no later than holiday 2025.

Sounds like we'll see how the Chainsaw Lancer came about during this title. Also this is 14 years before Gears 1. Plenty of time for more stories beyween this and the first title.

I outgrew GoW after the second one (despite playing a bit of III and IV), but I'm willing to give the franchise a chance again if it's got exciting stuff up its sleeve.

This question was answered by Phil Spencer later in the day. He said any games not given established release dates are because of the new approach they wish to take of not putting expectations or pressure on the devs until the team working on the game feels confident about a ship date. He said that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s really far off from release, as The Coalition has already been working on this game for a while. This was the same idea with Avowed and Indiana Jones. While they are both expected to ship this year, it could be sooner or later than whatever date they throw out right now.

I’m excited for it cause I love Gears but I do hope they get to Gears 6 eventually cauze there is story left to tell after Gears 5.

They’ve stated that Gears 6 will still be told. That they haven’t abandoned that storyline. I’m glad. Still would like to see how it t all plays out after 5.

I’m not a fan of the story so far in the last two games so if they were to abandon it, I wouldn’t lose any sleep. More interested in seeing how Marcus and Dom become the Marcus and Dom from the first Gears. Looking forward to this one.

If they took all the pre-existing GOW games and put them together in one giant GOW game with this prequel at the beginning, with the latest Unreal Engine and updated gameplay, I'd buy it.

I mean we got performance updates through back compat but I was pretty surprised when they only did the remake of the first title.

I only ever played the first two (and only finished the first one), yet another series to catch up on. Plenty of time before the prequel drops I suppose.
