Picked it up today at local record store.

I recently got new Martin Logan Motion XT F100 towers for R/L stereo and was already equipped for Atmos with in ceiling speakers.

I also own the SACD and previous DVD audio disc that was included in a previous LP Anniversary edition

I think the ATMOS sounds really nice, I have no issues with the mix so will be curious what others think.

I didn’t sample the other mixes.

The Atmos mix is basically multi channel stereo with nothing in the rears. Very disapointing. You might as well upmix the original stereo version.

It would be worth boosting the rear channels by 6dB to see if it’s a calibration error.

No errors, just a front centric mix.

If you play just L C R channels, everything is there. ALL guitar riffs, drums, bass vocals. Nothing discrete in heights. Lots doubled in wides.

When Sgt Pepper came out, everyone said it was “front centric”. I stood in the back of my theater and listened and realized that there was stuff happening back there, but it just was attenuated. When I boosted the rears by +6dB, the fox hunt in Good Morning ran diagonally across the room entering with the same volume at front right as when it exited left rear. The added volume in the rears pulled the sound out into the room more. The whole album sounds better. It doesn’t have to be discrete sounds in the rear to hear an improvement.

The only way to know is to try boosting it. Engineers are not infallible. Calibration problems and imbalances aren’t common, but they aren’t unheard of, especially in multichannel recordings.

The Atmos mix of Sgt Pepper smokes the 5.1!! Gile did a much better job with that.

I listened to the ATMOS on my 5.1 system and really dig it. I am hoping for Station To Station and Low to get the same treatment.

Try turning up the volume and boosting the rear channels +6dB and see if it gets better for you. The Sgt Pepper 5.1 mix places sounds in the middle of the room. If the balance between the five mains isn’t right, some sounds disappear into the mix or flatten against the wall. Most 5.1 mixes work the front and back and don’t try to place objects in the middle. I suspect that’s because of inconsistency in home installations.

Just listened to it last night and that wasn't my experience. I walked around the speakers for the first song and the output from the side speakers were similar to the fronts, while the backs had background sounds with no vocals. Resulting in something similar to what you stated.

However, as more songs played, I noticed more and more discrete sounds coming from the side and rear speakers. Sometimes including vocals, many times different vocals than from the front and mostly different sounds. The rear always seemed different than the sides.

I enjoyed the mix. While I don't have ceiling speakers at this time, I do have a 7.1 system with an ATMOS capable receiver.

It doesn't have to have discrete in the rears to be good. vocals shared between the front and back can place the sound into the middle of the room at the phantom center. Atmos can reinforce this kind of placement.

I prefer multichannel mixes that create a sound field to those that place sound objects in the corners of the room.

I never said it did. I was just commenting that I had a different experience than the person I was quoting. I did not find that it was "basically multi channel stereo with nothing in the rears. Very disapointing. You might as well upmix the original stereo version"

I found it very enjoyable with a good mix of discrete sounds from time to time across speakers. Vocals were sometimes replicated across front and side, but not always, it depended on the song and intent.

I had recently picked the half-speed mastered vinyl from Rhino not know this album was getting released on a Blu-ray in high-rez and Atmos mixes.

I ordered the Blu on Tues and it showed up on Thurs. Can’t wait to check it out. The Rhino vinyl is a very good sounding version of the album. Thankfully I got a rather clean pressing. That’s my knock on current vinyl is that quality is all over the map.

I heard the Atmos mix in the cinema and it wa jaw dropping, shame that mix didn't see commercial physical media release.

As to Ziggy Stardust- the Atmos mix to me sounded so basic
