While I myself am disappointed that the 3DFA didn't work on this, I've still pre-ordered it and am looking forward to seeing it. I've never dealt with 88 Films before, so I will reserve judgement on the release until after I've seen it.

Besides, it's a 3D movie I've never seen before, so that alone makes it worth getting.

88 Films is an excellent boutique label, one of the best. I have tons of their releases. But they’ve never released a 3-D film before, and vintage 3-D films are obviously a whole different animal and require a specialized field of expertise to restore properly, as Shout Factory learned the hard way. So I hope they have someone on their team that knows their onions.

I've never seen this movie before but after reading this topic, an instant pre-order was placed via amazon.co.uk. My bank account may not thank you but I certainly do :-)

It’s available for preorder now on Amazon UK, but that’s not EU right?

It is coming out in the US so I wouldn't worry about FOMO, it won't be a hard title to get though I suspect it will sell better than expected.

More because I just don't want do deal with currency exchange and everything involved with customs holding orders just to justify some useless jobs.

Yes, since Brexit that UK is no longer an EU member and that complicates a lot with transactions.

Got it. Thanks for the info. I have a sticky note on my computer listing the difference between the UK, Great Britain, England and the British Empire, which are often used interchangeably here. I need to learn which countries are in the EU. Embarrassing.

If it is listed on EU Amazon sites, they will almost certainly just price it the equivalent rate in euros. Not much risk of ordering it from Amazon UK, the shipping price is usually just 3 pounds and it’s quite reliable getting it there quick (source: i live in Austria and order Amazon uk a bunch)

And a tip from a Scotsman - we don't like being called England. Britain is ok, UK is ok, but not England. It would be like calling someone from New York a Texan.

Someone named Edgar Lent on the Blu-ray Fans Unite FB page said, “I asked 88Films about the sources and restoration measures of their upcoming release Magnificent Bodyguards.
This is what they answered.” And then he posted this screengrab:

He’s just posting the response from 88 Films, and we all know how just using the master handed to you by the licensor can turn out. The fact that they’re not saying they’re doing any 3-D restoration themselves isn’t very reassuring. The licensor could have stipulated that they have to use the master given to them with no alterations. I’m trying to stay positive, but this certainly doesn’t help.

Agreed, Fortune Star can be difficult to deal with, and apart from 3DFA not collaborating, 88 Films performing the 3D restoration is the best possible scenario for this film. Their attention to detail is really quite remarkable. They fix things like reinstating color filters present in theatrical prints but not seen in the master provided because they received scans directly from original negatives. Other companies, even Vinegar Syndrome, often miss these details when releasing HK films. Not to mention original audio tracks, the best English subtitle translations, a bevy of newly produced special features, and luxury packaging + posters, etc. I’m excited for this release and hoping for nice stereo cleanup. Keep in mind that very few boutique distributors could have made this happen, and 3DFA still has a full plate for the next few years. If it wasn't for 88, this film would still be sitting dormant in FS' vault.
