David Goyer On Rumors Of New 'Blade' Movie: 'There's Been Murmurings Of Another Film'

Quote:
David Goyer is practically a household name in the geek community thanks to his work on "The Dark Knight," well-received comic book writing on series like "JSA," and the promise of his Green Arrow prison break film "Super Max." One of his earliest comic-to-screen properties, "Blade," has hit a bit of a stand-still in terms of further outings—but according to Goyer, another chapter could be on the horizon.

"It's been rumored over at New Line," Goyer told MTV News about the status of Marvel's number one vampire slayer. Speaking during a press event for his upcoming, time-bending, sci-fi television series "Flash Forward," Goyer said "there's been murmurings" of another "Blade" film.

Is it possible that these rumors and murmurs could belong to the alleged "Deacon Frost" movie, based on the villainous bloodsucker featured in the first "Blade" film? The actor who portrayed the character, Stephen Dorff, thinks it might happen—but the likelier scenario is that someone wants Blade to come back for another installment, especially given Goyer's earlier comments that another "Blade" might happen without Wesley Snipes.

That's not to say another movie is a good idea, however—especially this soon after the canceled "Blade" television series. Goyer said that one of the reasons that "Batman Begins" and its highly regarded sequel did so well is because of good timing.

"I think when you revisit these characters, the question is, how long should they stay off the shelf?" he posited. "When we did 'Batman Begins,' he'd been off the shelf for about eight years. It hasn't been eight years yet for Blade. I think usually if you give them a little breathing room between iterations, it's better."

The most recent iteration of the character took the form of "Blade: The Series," which aired on Spike TV in 2006. The series starred rapper/actor Kirk "Sticky Fingaz" Jones, and featured a pilot scripted by Goyer and veteran comic book writer Geoff Johns. One two-hour pilot and 11 episodes of "Blade" were aired before it was canceled.

Is Blade out of jail yet for tax evasion?

If they make another Blade film(or reboot it) they really need to get rid of Goyer.

I'm sure they want to cash in on the latest vampire craze but I really don't think this deserves a reboot. Batman is a characther of epic proportions, but Blade... Come on? Same with Robocop and all this other ridiculous crap.

First one was just ok and then just progressively got worse, but that's just my opinion. I don't really care for this but I guess some fans might.

I guess New Line does still have the rights. Or so it seems.

Blade 2 was the best of the three by far.

I really hate the first one... How could some new punk be stronger than the old true bloods???

Ugh... that's why the HBO series is so good...

That being said, if you bring this movie back without Wesley, then it's a horrible idea. This is not an easily rebootable franchise and how dare they compare it to Batman. The success of Blade (first one) and Spiderman (coming out four years later) contributed heavily to the studios buying up all of the comic book properties. Either wait for Wesley to get out of jail or expect nobody to go see your movie. And keep Sticky Fingaz away.

All this did was remind me of yet another series I liked which got canceled early. The Blade tv series was surprisingly good, especially near the end. The weakest link just happened to be Sticky Fingaz. Recast him and bring Blade back!

I wouldn't mind a Decon Frost movie either.

I thought the first Blade was superior to the rest easily, it is probably the only one I would upgrade to blu-ray for. Blade 2 had way too many inconsistencies and Blade 3 was saved by Ryan Reynolds, I liked his character.

I agree completely on this. I feel that everything that could be squeezed out of Blade on the big screen has been squeezed out. Maybe they should let it go and make a movie of another Marvel character, say ... Deadpool?

I don't want a new Blade movie because the longer it takes for it to be made the longer we have to wait for the Blu-Rays

Wesley Snipes has gone from the limelight to the no-light over the years, with the seven films he's done since BLADE: TRINITY all going straight to DVD, following in the footsteps of other 90s action heroes like Steven Seagal. But that's all about to change now that he's going theatrical again with BROOKLYN'S FINEST.

While out pimping the film at a recent junket, AITH scored this exclusive scoop from Snipes about the possibilities of a fourth BLADE movie: Snipes said that there has been some talk about a Blade 4 and that he would be interested if the script was right.

You heard it here first folks! There's talk of a fourth BLADE, and if the script is right, Snipes is on board with bells and whistles. Awesome. While BLADE: TRINITY wasn't "all that," it was still cooler than a lot of other films out there, and seeing Snipes as our resident vampire ass-kicker again would be nice. Especially after the fiasco that was BLADE: THE SERIES.

When I first saw the trailer for BROOKLYN'S FINEST, I reaslized how much I've missed Snipes on the big screen. It was like seeing an old friend again. Let's hope his return is felt throughout the movie world to make those talks of BLADE 4 into reality, Would definitely be cool to see another entry in the series.

I'd love a 4th Blade movie. Loved the first two and while the third wasnt great I would buy the boxset if it would come out (other than the alliance version).

If Blade 4 gets off the ground then they need to bring in Morbius, he's the only way to go considering the events that took place in Trinity that and we need the trilogy on Blu asap!
