Default Sony XBR9 or Sony Z5100

I am really torn between buying either the Sony KDL52z5100 and the Sony KDL52xbr9. Is the difference that much between the two to warrant $300.00 more for the XBR? Thanks for your opinion!!

if I had to pick I'd go with the XBR9 for a couple hundred bucks more. Just make sure you get it calibrated for maximum enjoyment.

when did you get yours? right now it's at $2099.99...but now you can get the s360 for free so it's a good deal if you don't already have a BD player

You told him to make sure he gets it calibrated. Where do you suggest one would get that service done? I have a Sony Bravia 46XBR6 I just bought two months ago and I tweaked all my settings until I got it looking just right and now it looks just like I saw in the store, Unimaginably gorgeous!!! I waited until the XBR9's showed up in the stores and that convinced me that I did not want the XBR9 over the XBR6. To me it is night and day for the 6. The XBR9 is too dark for me and I did not like it. Oh well....everyone likes different looks. Get back to me on the calibration though if you don't mind, I am curious and also what it might cost. Thanks....

you can have a professional come out to your home and do an ISF calibration for a few hundred bucks. Check with Best Buy or do a Google search for professionals in your area.

That's way too much money for me. It took me on and off for about a week to get mine tuned just right. All I did was look to the internet by googling and finding people who had already bought my Sony XBR6 and see what they had to say and followed their lead and BINGO!!! I think that could be an easier way than pay some $200 guru. I also heard to be careful about hiring certain calibrators for they just do a few tweaking's that you could do and then they charge you an arm and a leg. I dunno!!!

well the pros use special equipment and they can actually go into the service menu, which you could do but you risk destroying your TV at the same time if you dont know what you're doing. I've seen professionally calibrated TV's next to do-it-yourself calibrated sets, and trust me, it makes an absolute world of difference.

Well...Thanks for that info, I did not know that. Then again, it might be well worth looking into. Thanks my man!!! Got any suggestions for calibrators?

A friend of mine worked at Circuit City doing the calibrations. He said wait about a month to let the xbr9 get broken in then call him. He's only charging me $80.00 to do it, and yes he does have the tools to calibrate it properly. Love the xbr9!!

That's nice, but I have a 2 month old Sony XBR6 that I am truly in love with. Who and what is his number if I wanted to talk to him about the calibrations? Do you think he might would have time to talk to me about maybe him looking at my set?

I think that might be common in most Sony TV's. I have a 46'' RPTV and it does the same thing. Dont worry, its normal.

You can go to cnet.com and look up your model TV and usually in the review they have the calibration settings. I just bought a Sony KDL-46XBR9 printed the calibration settings from cnet.com and wow what a difference. I have a 120GB PS3 via HDMI and wow! Watching Terminator 2....

Best Buy is currently running sales with the both the 46,52- XBR9 and Z5100 models. They are on sale and also doing bundles with the BDPS360 and HTiB system HTSS360.

Granted the HTiB is a pretty lowend sound system it is a good deal considering the BD player decodes all formats for PCM and the SS360 will handle 5.1 lossless PCM streams.

I got a 46Z5100, a BDP-S360 and a HT-SS360 for $1599+ tax. Not bad.
