Default Octopussy (1983) v Temple of Doom (1984)

Both films are relatively more action oriented among their respective franchises. Both take place by and large in India. One is primarily shot in Udaipur (India), while the other in Sri Lanka.

Both are very engaging films and on certain parameters among the best in their respective franchises. However, both films have their critics as well for some of the stupid gags or portrayal of certain ethnic characters (for e.g. the white saviour narrative in Temple of Doom). Many do not appreciate certain disguises in Octopussy, while many find characters such as Willie Scott irritating in Temple of Doom.

Octopussy has multiple tones and therefore also more depth. Temples of Doom is more focused on certain themes and therefore probably relatively dark. Both rely heavily on cinematic conveniences as well.

Barry’s score in Octopussy is probably the best in Moore 007 films, while Williams does a good job in Temple of Doom too.

IMO, Octopussy is as good as (if not better) the best Indiana Jones films.

Which film do you prefer more?

Temple of Doom is among my favorites but Octopussy is more fun!

The mesmerizing locations, stunts, the Bond girls, the score, the good use of Fleming’s material, Cold War espionage, …, …, …

the Bond fan in me is choosing Octopussy...

but both films here are rarely listed as "top tier" in their franchise.....
