Whoa! I had to do a double take to make sure this was real. This has been on my list of all-time favorites since I first saw it in 2000. I actually bought the 4K digital copy since I figured it would never get a physical release but I will be all over this.
It's interesting how when I was younger I thought this movie was so funny. Now that I'm older, I still laugh, but the things that make me laugh are completely different. But overall I feel like it's a much more sad, melancholy experience to watch it now. |

In some alternative reality, Mark Borchardt would have been given $100M to make an epic, big budget Coven. Instead we get the reality where Zack Snyder or Eli Roth are given that honour.

Coven has very little redeeming qualities besides the fact that it got made, and after American Movie's success you'd think he'd be more motivated than ever to make a proper feature length film to prove himself. It's never been easier to make a movie than it is now, yet most of his projects are stuck in some kind of production hell. Either he's too ambitious for his own good or lacks inspiration/motivation. |

I watched this via Amazon Prime Video the other day for the first time. Very entertaining documentary.. I honestly thought it was scripted mockumentary initially, but the more I watched, it became obvious it was all too real. Mark Borchardt, and his friend Mike (who I learned sadly passed away in 2022 at just 56 years old) are quite the characters. The film doesn't exactly scream 4K, let alone Dolby Vision, so it's definitely a surprising choice now that I've seen it. Still, I am glad to see Sony taking chances, and putting titles like this out on 4K, even though I'm sure they don't expect it'll sell all that well. Hopefully Sony Pictures Classics does that with others in their catalog too going forward.
