USA Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In 4K UHD (2024)

Well Go Entertainment will be releasing the Hong Kong Martial Arts / Action film Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In (2024) on 4K on November 19th. It's gotten pretty positive reviews, and is the highest grossing film so far this year in Hong Kong.

Quote:
Extras
  • All-New English Dub
  • Behind-the-Scenes Content
  • Cast Interviews
  • Making-of Featurette
Quote:
Many years after the bloody turf war that ushered in an uneasy era of peace in Hong Kong's underworld, the notorious Kowloon Walled City serves as a fortified, lawless safe haven for gangs and refugees alike. But when a skilled underground fighter runs afoul of the most feared Triad boss in Hong Kong, a bounty is placed on his head despite his connections to the leader of the infamous enclave. As his pursuers violate the tenuous territorial truce to exact their vengeance, the fallout reignites old grudges, bringing decades of building tension to a brutal, bloody boiling point.

I found it to be an enjoyable Kung fu superheros type film, the action is not as goofy as in Donnie Yen films but there is some wire work and a lot of quick cuts regardless. Should look great in 4k. Acting is solid enough. Honor / brotherhood, that type of thing. I like how the bad guy in the image above is really over the top. I will pick up the 4k. Hopefully they will carry over (and English sub) special features from prior releases

UK version confirmed to have no HDR, curious if this version will have HDR and if any of the other extras are different (other than the English dub not on the UK disc)

That's a weird choice. This was available with DV via streaming.

Yeah it's a bit weird, not sure the reason why it doesn't have any HDR.

I don't know who else pre-ordered from Target, but I got a notice this morning that this was delayed until December 3rd. It could be Target shenanigans, could be something more but I felt I should let you folks know.

Probably just Target, as Amazon and GRUV appear to have stock of it already.

I believe the U.S. release does, but not the U.K. release

I’ve heard that this is a throwback to the old-school 80s-90s HK classics. I hope it half lives up to that rep.

Personally I would say no. It takes place during the 80's, but 100% feels like a film made for todays audiences. Here is a review I just wrote:

Watched Twilight of the Warriors: Walled in last night, and this one really caught me by surprise. I had only watched the trailer maybe close to a year ago before going into this.

Let me preface this by saying I liked the film, and probably will enjoy it even more the second time now that I know what to expect. Light spoilers ahead. So I expected this to be a dark crime film with some martial arts similar to SPL (Killzone) , but in reality it's pretty much a mainstream Marvel type film with martial arts. This is not a realistic film. Let me repeat that, this is not a realistic film. It really didn't dawn on me until it's revealed that a certain character has bullet proof skin. Yup, bullet proof skin. We have now entered a Shaw Brothers film.

It does have a few scene of violence, but this is no 80's-90's HK film which I believe it was trying to be an homage to. For the most part this is a friendly affair when it's over you're going to feel good.

When that perspective in mind, this is a really fun film. Tons of action and an entertaining plot. You can see where the plot is going far in advance, but again you don't mind, as you're just here for the spectacle. Don't expect John Woo, Johnnie To, Tsui Hark, etc grit and you should be fine.

Top of the line PQ and sound.

I know this is the 4K thread, but I don't think there is a standard BD thread for Walled in. Did anyone else get that standard release? Mine came in a 2-disc case, but there was only 1 disc. It didn't look repackaged or anything. I got it new from Amazon and it came with the slip. Maybe they were out of standard cases. I'm pretty sure there isn't, but I just wanted to confirm it is indeed a 1-disc release in the United States.

Target officially hates me, delayed until the 10th. Maybe it's to line up with Galaxy Quest (my other 4k on order), but I kinda doubt it.

I bought the limited edition 4K release from Zavvi US not knowing the disc wouldn't play on my PS5 or Series X. Screen says "disc cannot play due to region coding on the player". I've changed the region location too in the settings but no success.

So am I SOL on this and have to beg Zavvi for a return? First time ordering from them so I gotta look up if they'll accept opened products

US 4k Version.
HDR/DV.
English Dub.
Cantonese Atmos.
Cantonese DTS X.
No Special Features - Need to double dip Blu-ray version (not included) for any extras.

UK 4k Version.
No HDR/DV.
Cantonese Atmos - No English Dub or DTS X.
Blu-ray version included.
Has Special Features.
Photo Booklet.

Shame both versions have things missing. Having the UK version, I will probably pick up the US version cheap at some point, for the HDR/DV, dub track and DTS X, so I have all options available.
