Does anyone can tell me if subtitles can be used during the bonuses? The French release of the blu ray specifies French subtitles but when we wanna watch the movie with the director's commentary, French sub don't work...

Watched another film by the director called Welcome to Woop Woop and thought it was pretty hilarious. Definitely an odd movie where a NYC con artist is basically drugged and held hostage by a crazy woman in a remote Australian village where civilization is decades behind and people are fascinated by older celebrities like Neil Diamond, Streisand and Julie Andrews. Kind of like a mix between Mad Max and Nothing But Trouble. Rod Taylor had so many funny scenes as the guy who rules the town as a guy known as "Daddy-O." It's kind of one of those 'what in the world am I watching' kind of films that seemed to be universally panned, though I loved it.

This is one of the MGM titles that I hope can be revisited in 4K. For a decade old release I don’t think it looks awful, but it seems to rely on a DVD era master with an unnatural grain field that could be a little finer, halos during some of the exterior scenes against the blue sky and in aerial shots, recurring white/black specs throughout the film, telecine wobble during the Polygram logo.

Both a sequel and remaster are in the works. Park Circus are reissuing the film to UK cinemas in the summer.

Before people start frothing at the mouth and banning me…
I love The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. But… It’s a nightmare of political incorrectness now. You can’t call a trans person a ‘tranny’. See Ru Paul, drag race, and one contestant saying ‘ the use of the words ‘she-male,’ ‘ladyboy,’ and ‘tranny’ are not cute at all’. Deadnaming. RALPH! Mail order bride jokes. Child molester reference - Gary Glitter. I’m sure there are plenty of other culturally insensitive jokes that will have certain people baying for blood, like the depictions of aborigines and women, as racist and misogynistic. But then plenty of old Bond movies probably upset some people for ***** Galore/Plenty O’Toole jokes. I think the movie is a hoot. Also a) being a comedy and b) not a Hollywood movie, none of our ‘heroes’ die and there’s a happy ending. Quite an achievement. |

Just got my copy in the mail. I leave in the morning for vacation and still have to pack but if I have time after, I def plan on watching it. Otherwise, I won’t be able to check it out until right before new years. Sturdy box. Clamshell inside with booklet next to it and envelope with photos next to that. One odd thing I noticed is the clamshell has a full color image, on the reverse of the cover (the three leads in their bearded dragons looks) but it’s not a clear clamshell so you can’t see it. Weird. Anyway, I’ll report back after I’ve given it a good watch.

I am all for doing the right thing and not being offensive but this is a movie, and it's from 1994. Anyone that expects it to be on the same level of what hits cinemas today (which is already offensive to them) has no place having a voice on social media as they are clearly lacking the minimum required brain-width. Let me quote Bette Midler, and say "F*** them if they can't take a joke!". I received this the other day, alonside the huge Neverending Story box set but have not dared open it up. I'm surprised it's not already OOP because the lenticular box looks so lush. I love this movie to bits and am looking forward to watching it again, and all its extras. |

I purchased the new 4k from Imprint. It Looks stunning in Dolby Vision in the middle of the desert on top of a bus! They really have cleaned this up so well and if you are offended don't buy it or watch it. This is Australian Humour, Dark and Dirty. Is it Politically correct NO, But that's the whole point. I love this movie as I used to live 2 minutes away from the pub they filmed in Sydney, This is just normal Sydney gay guy living. It hasn't changed. I have no idea why anyone would be shocked about an MA-rated dark comedy from 1994. Because at its heart, it's about love and family. The film broke down barriers and walls, especially in the Australian Gay community, because after word of mouth this movie played for a year at my cinema. Everybody went and saw it it didn't matter who or what you were, It was just a dam good time. With classic one-liners.

Finally got around to watching my copy and was quite surprised at how much clearer everything was. I never thought the blu-ray looked bad (it doesn’t) but my gosh, the uhd reveals stuff I’ve never seen before, especially some of the colors used in Guy Pearce’s makeup. Everything just looks a bit sharper and shinier and prettier. Just how a drag queen would want it.
