Default The Order (2024)

Quote:
In 1983, a series of increasingly violent bank robberies, counterfeiting operations, and armored car heists frightens communities throughout the Pacific Northwest. As baffled law enforcement agents scrambled for answers, a lone FBI agent, stationed in the sleepy, picturesque town of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, comes to believe the crimes are not the work of traditional, financially motivated criminals, but of a group of dangerous domestic terrorists, inspired by a radical, charismatic leader, plotting a devastating war against the federal government of the United States.

Directed by Justin Kurzel

Starring Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Marc Maron

Just listened to Jude Law on Marc Marin’s podcast and they talked a bit about this.

I’m always excited for new Justin Kurzel!

Had me at "Justin Kurzel", sent me into overdrive with "Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult & Tye Sheridan". How is this the first I'm hearing about this movie?

Also, seven minute standing ovation at Venice.

Someone should tell Mr. Law that when you're shooting a shotgun, you want to have both eyes open. If you do feel that you have to close an eye, make sure you close the left eye when you're shooting right-handed. In the picture above, he's going to be VERY lucky if he hits his target.

Sorry for being anal, as someone who has shot competitively, this is something I notice a lot in Hollywood.

I saw The Order tonight. I did not know anything about the movie except that it had something to do with heists and had actors in it I liked.

It's actually a decent movie. I thought it would be more about heists but was actually more about white supremacists. Just a competent movie all around, my only criticism is that it wasn't very deep. Good cinematography, subtle score and acting.

I like a lot of 'based on true event' type movies (The Founder, Gold, Jungle, American Animals, American Made, etc.) I think those are all better than this but this movie is just fine and held my attention the whole time.

Good one-watch movie.

6.5/10

He (mostly) missed.

This was a decent film that was well shot and acted. I had seen the trailer so knew basically what to expect. The film was never boring but this is a one and done for me.
[Show spoiler]Jude Law's family is mentioned several times in the film but it never goes anywhere. I wasn't sure what the point was.

This was a very good film; an excellent police procedural covering actual events that occurred in the early 1980's. Jude Law is very good as the committed FBI agent chasing the case. The action scenes are well choreographed and the film maintains its' intense atmosphere throughout the entire time. Recommended.

The latest batch of reviews has been mostly very positive, certainly more so than the initial ones from when it was first screened in August.

This is tanking hard at the US box office. It opened to a paltry PTA last weekend and is about to drop an estimated 58% this weekend despite keeping the same number of theaters. Was there any advertisement for this at all?

This only played in one theater anywhere near me. I loved it. It had me at Hoult, Law, and Sheridan. Bonus that it was directed by the guy who did Snowtown.

Even though this bombed, I’m still really looking forward to it. I believe it comes out on video on demand next week. Not sure of the exact date.

Really enjoyed this. The man that directed Nitram, which is excellent, IMO. Great to see Jude Law and Tye Sheridan carry this bad boy, and Hoult was good in this too.

A solid enough watch-and-forget kind of thriller. I expected something with an extra flavor coming from Kurzel, but this is as run-of-the-mill as it gets. Nicholas Hoult is not convincing as a baddie, ever.

Thought it was awful and wanted to love it.

Had the intensity of Hoult’s haircut in this.

it was a decent enough watch and entertained me. it also moved along well for a 2-hr movie, but it definitely felt like there were chunks of story missing. maybe it was messed with in editing to keep the runtime down, but seemed to me like there was opportunity for depth that would have elevated this one a bit.
