Default Oh hell no! End credits of my purchased Apple movies getting “window-ized”

I purchased Hitchcocks “Psycho” on iTunes ages ago. Watching it again tonight, at the end, just as Norman’s face/skull dissolves to Marion’s car being pulled out of the swamp, the picture suddenly minimized into a window at the upper right and I get a full screen ad for some AppleTV show!!!

Thinking it might be a glitch, I skipped to the end credits of another purchased movie. Same thing!

Is this new? I’ve never seen this before. I can deal with this on streaming shows and movies but not on movies I’ve actually purchased!!

Under your Apple TV settings I believe you can remove that option. I think

did you start it from your library or just searched for it and maybe if its one of the movies on appletv+ service this month, played that version which would advertise other appletv + stuff during credits like hulu or netflix??

It's atrocious. I f***ing hate it. My partner and I are rewatching Veep and you miss part of the credits because of it. I truly wish there were a way to stop it

No, it was directly from my library. I also tried it on The Towering Inferno, which I also own, same results

Is this a tvOS 18 "feature"--or is it server-side flip live on OS 17 Apple TV's right now??

Just press the back button and it’ll go full screen again.

It shouldn't do it in the first place. It's annoying AF.

I’ve been doing some testing on this and on the limited number of titles I’ve tried it seems that the minimisation only happens on titles that don’t have a menu selection with iTunes Extras, and even then it’s only in the closing seconds before the video file ends.

And if you're watching a tv show when scenes are happening through the credits, this is a major problem.

A video of this was posted on Twitter, it literally ruins the ending of this movie for anyone seeing it for the first time:

https://x.com/vhsdude/status/1833893037912764829?s=46

I checked it on my Apple TV though and this does not happen. Someone must have gone in and “fixed” it. Checking a few other movies most did not do anything, but a few did shrink at the very end. They seem to be telling it to do this during the last 15 seconds. Not as bad as Netflix but still unacceptable, especially for anything you’ve PURCHASED. In the case with Psycho, even the last 15 seconds are important.

I’ll be sending Apple some printed letters about this. I’ve been using their stuff for nearly 45 years and it’s shameful they would do something like this. It’s certainly yet another case for not buying “digital” movies. Of course this is largely because not many people complained when Netflix started doing this a few years ago (I was a loyal customer of theirs but will NEVER support them now.)

I just checked this on Psycho on my Apple TV 4K and it minimises. I cannot believe this. This has to be an oversight. Shocking.

Just do this simple thing and act like nothing happened.

Keep you finger on the back button when you think the movie is almost over and try to time it just right. It's a new age of interactive movies!

Time to make a list of the special tricks you need to know to try to watch a movie. Also pretend it didn't happen.

Apple is going to add all kinds of annoying things now that they need a new OS and have run out of ways to make it better. When anyone in my house is using Facetime I get a little icon on the top right of the screen. I use ATV4K for media and don't ever use it for FT but anyways ... I'm not the person using FT when this happens !! ...

I guess Apple doesn't like the ATV4K anymore. I still think it's the best but .... ok ... maybe that was yesterday.

Oh I see, so by offering someone a solution/workaround is now seen as acting like nothing happened…….. Gotcha!
