Default Krzyżacy (Knights of the Teutonic Order) 1960

So I'm interested in this film, but -- please correct me if I'm wrong -- it has only been issued once on blu-ray, in this version:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Knigh...lu-ray/290444/

However, that is not a separate release at all (if I understand the matter correctly) but can only be obtained as part of an 8-movie boxed set:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Marti...lu-ray/141331/

Is that right?

And what's worse, that set seems to be very hard to get.

Would anyone know of, perhaps, any domestic Polish blu-ray releases that I might have missed?

Otherwise, I'm only seeing a number of DVD versions; e.g.:

Has anyone perhaps viewed the various DVD issues and compared them? Would anyone happen to know if either (or if still another) feature better picture quality, or a longer cut?

I can understand Polish reasonably well, so I'd sacrifice English subtitles for a better print (if any of them are, in fact, superior).

Looks like this is being released on blu in France tomorrow, unfortunately no English subs. But hopefully someone else can license it

I ordered it. I probably should have first waited to see if it's been grotesquely re-graded in urine-yellow and sallow-green colour filtering, as so many "remastered" blu-rays are. But I took a chance, mostly because . . .

https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B0B5KXGRJN/

. . . of this interesting tidbit on the amazon.fr site:

Quote:
- le Blu-ray du film (172'40")
- le DVD du film (165'44")
Seven minutes longer seems too much to be accounted for by any sort of PAL/NTSC differences and suggests that the blu-ray might have some footage that the (numerous) extant DVDs do not. I believe that their run times are all around the 166 minute mark.

I'm totally unfamiliar with Krzyżacy but since it has a three hour length -- just guessing -- perhaps the time differential comes from additional music -- overture, intermission, entr'acte, exit? Again, no idea.

FilmPolski info page in Google translation.

If you want to preview before buying, the film can be seen on YouTube.

172'40" = 10360s x 24f/s = 248640 frames
165'44" = 9964s x 25f/s = 248600 frames
They are the same.

My goodness. It's shocking what a time difference that makes.

I got this movie today (the polish single release). Not very easy to come by.

It's 172,38 minutes on BD. The covers states original mono, but there's only polish DD and DTS-HD MA 5.1 tracks on the disc.

English and french subs, and both the cover and the disc menu is fully in english, so very english friendly release.

Cool, nice score! It’s great that I imagine that’s in 2:35:1 compared to the old dvd at 1:77.

For those interested Amazon.de has 10 copies of the 8 film Scorsese Polish films Vol 2 in stock which contains this film as well. Of course more expensive then a single film release

Do either of you know if the Polish single release of Knights of the Black Cross / Knights of the Teutonic Order is the exact same release as the one in the Masterpieces set?

I'd love to get this on Blu-ray but the box set is rather expensive for just the one film. But if I spend the time and money looking for the single release, I want to be sure the A/V quality is comparable to the one in the set.

Thanks for any help you can provide

I don’t know myself, but I’d tend to think they are the same, perhaps Muyfa or someone else knows. Of course this is a very popular polish film so you’d think their release would be treated well as use at least a good of transfer as the box. As for the set, The Saragossa Manuscript is also good

Thanks for the quick reply. I already own the US Yellow Veil releases of The Saragossa Manuscript and The Hourglass Sanatorium or I'd be more willing to consider the full set.

Sorry, but I have no idea about the boxset as I don’t own it.
