Director Sam Raimi combined the spooky underpinnings of his early work with his newly proven talent for handling powerful drama in the supernatural thriller The Gift, coaxing nuanced performances from a star-studded cast to bring a gripping script by Billy Bob Thornton & Tom Epperson (One False Move) to life.

In rural Georgia, recently widowed psychic Annie Wilson (Cate Blanchett) works as a tarot reader to support her young family. When she is introduced to her son’s affable school principal (Greg Kinnear) and his socialite fiancée (Katie Holmes), Annie has a grisly premonition of things yet to come. After her violent vision comes true, all eyes turn to Annie, leaving her with no choice but to use her clairvoyant abilities to find the culprit herself. Could it be the abusive husband (Keanu Reeves) of one of Annie’s regular clients (Hilary Swank)? Or the nervy mechanic (Giovanni Ribisi) whose yearning for friendship masks an uncontrollable rage? Or is another terrible secret hiding in plain sight?

Made right before a certain web-slinger finally catapulted Raimi from the cult fringes onto Hollywood’s A-list, The Gift is an underappreciated but vital entry in his filmography that is ripe for reappraisal with this brand new 4K remaster.

Arrow just put up a teaser for this on their IG. Hopefully in the January-selection. I have not seen this since the DVD was released. Very much looking forward to getting it.

I have the Imprint release, which I have not watched yet, but I think I'm good with that. IF I decide to upgrade, I'd definitely go for the Arrow. They do a better job overall. Shout really needs to step up their packaging game. Time has not been kind to their flimsy slipcovers and all they do is sit on the shelf!

Sounds like the features are going to be very similar if not identical - I'm gonna grab the Shout! version because it will come out earlier and I won't have to worry about importing it...

I’m glad they started teasing this today, making it more likely this will be among their January announcements. If there was too long a gap between releases, the more difficult it would be to maintain my self-control and wait for Arrow’s release…

I'm not sure if I want to import this or not. The paperwork and everything required to fill out with US retailers to import one into the USA is very tedious and time-consuming. And that's if I get approved as an owner of the movie. Sighing!

They teased The Cell before December release-announcement too, yet it wasn't there. Hopefully this means nothing, and we will get both in January.
