It's certainly possible that DTS-HD-MA has been held back, as someone mentioned in the rant thread that Sony are waiting on releasing functionality for the PS3 until there are standalone players that implement them, in an attempt to not kill the market. We'll have to wait and see if that's the case, or until something more definite comes out, but Sony's made it a policy not to comment on unreleased features so I don't expect anything from that side.
