United Kingdom The Usual Suspects 4K (Arrow)

Arrow - HMV

Quote:
FIVE CRIMINALS. ONE LINE UP. NO COINCIDENCE.

Amidst the wave of neo-noir thrillers that swept American cinema in the 1990s, few films made as much impact as The Usual Suspects, which revolutionised the genre, won two Academy Awards® and is still regarded as one of the greatest crime films ever made.

After a brutal massacre on a cargo ship off the coast of Los Angeles leaves 27 men dead, Special Agent Dave Kujan (Chazz Palminteri) interrogates one of the only two survivors, small-time con artist Verbal Kint (Kevin Spacey). During the interview, Kint tells Kujan of how he was recruited by the fearsome crime lord Keyser Söze to commit a series of daring heists with four other crooked misfits: Dean Keaton (Gabriel Byrne), Mike McManus (Stephen Baldwin), Fred Fenster (Benicio del Toro) and Todd Hockey (Kevin Pollak). But as Kint’s account of the events leading up to the massacre becomes more convoluted, Kujan becomes increasingly sceptical and determined to discover the identity of the elusive Keyser Söze.

With an unforgettably twisty and tightly written Oscar®-winning script by Christopher McQuarrie, The Usual Suspects is an unmissable entry in the canon of American indie cinema.

Hmm..
The Kino 4K is very good already. I'm really tired of selling them for nothing.

The number one question on everyone's mind is, who did the encoding.

Absolute corker of a film and will replace my very old (as in, when it first came out) UK DVD. Never tired of watching this film, so genuinely looking forward to watching again in 4k.

Doesn't seem they've added any new extras for this one? Hmm. I own the Kino and it's good. But I seem to have some blind label loyalty to Arrow.

Yeah, I think besides the booklet it's exactly the same contents-wise as the Kino release.

Although this is one of my favorites and I'm offloading every Kino for Arrow, I'll wait for this. The Kino is very good tbh, I'll check how better the Arrow after release.

I bought the 4K two or three months ago. Looks like we willed this one into existence. There's nothing new here in terms of extras and I don't watch or really love the film enough to re-buy for a possibly very slight, marginal upgrade over the Kino. I think this is one of those home video favorites that always sells just like "Office Space", so I'm sure it'll do well for Arrow.

This is one of several reasons why I stopped buying Blu Rays. No matter how unlikely I thought a 4K release was, it'd be announced within a couple of months of me picking up the Blu Ray!

I don’t tend to buy as many Blu-rays of what you’d describe as mainstream type stuff nowadays because of this.
Never got around to upgrading Jackie Brown to Blu-ray for whatever reason, and in the last few years I never bothered coz 4K, so that one is now justified.

It better be Ben McKenzie from Films at Home or they won’t get a dime from me.

I'm not sure about automatically selling these any more if the Arrow isn't being encoded by Fidelity. I'm not saying this is or isn't, I've no idea, but the reports of all the chroma crud on Desperado from The Engine House have me spooked.

Fidelity's Twitter account didn't repost this (or any of yesterday's Arrow announcements). If they really aren't doing Usual Suspects I hope at least Visual Data Media Services does. I preordered it anyway because my Kino 4K was blessed with factory-fresh scratches.

Not sure VDMS will be doing any more if Arrow can do them in-house.

That would suck.

But I just read in a different thread that FIM did Eureka's just revealed Cure 4K even though FIM didn't retweet that announcement either. There's still hope.

I thought Desperado looked really great when I watched and didn’t notice any chroma errors but I haven’t kept up with the thread so I’m not sure what to look for.
