See all the other posts of people who don’t care for the current 4K transfer which was 2K … while extras may be new … those won’t beckon me to pre-order.

Arrow are mum on the transfer itself so if its the same current 4K already out … I’m passing.

It’s not one of my Tarantino favs so it would have to be a great transfer otherwise it isn’t enough to have me revisit it.

It's a bingo! Also hoping for a FIM encode. Although I will say, the previous 4k was perfectly fine, but super excited for this.

Of course it's a 2K upscale, the movie was finished in 2K. What were you honestly expecting? Them to completely re-do the film from scratch? Because that was never happening.

What was wrong with the Universal release? I thought it was just fine.

I love Arrow, but I’ll be fine with the older release.

Too many good movies coming out soon to be buying marginal upgrades. If it blows the previous 4k out of the water, I might be interested.

Time will tell!

Then its an easy pass for me.

controversial take but I only liked a couple moments from the film so, it has to have a really good transfer for me to buy it. I never bought the Universal 4K.

To me it ranks low on my Tarantino list… in fact I prefer Death Proof over IB.

Once reviews pop up and people give their opinion of the transfer I might change my mind.

Arrow’s 2K upscale with improved grading + HDR will make this film look so much better, like Trick 'r Treat. This isn’t disappointing in the slightest. The extras are also stacked. Can’t wait for this one.

Is this the first commentary recorded for a Tarantino-directed movie?

I’m guessing Arrow wanted involvement from Tarantino, but probably got sick of waiting and had to just press on.

Wasn’t this shot on film even 70mm or am I confusing it with Hateful Eight.

Even still it was shot on film, why aren’t we getting a scan of the negative at the least? Or was it shot on film then digital effects added but only at 2K then prints were struck from the 2K?

It’s not like this film is ancient. Just too bad I guess.

Surprised there's no Arrow Store-exclusive version.

INGLORIOUS BASTERDS was 35mm anamorphic and finished as a 2K DI. Even though "mere 2K" though, being shot anamorphically is can benefit in the verticle domain, since a 2K anamorphic scan is 1536 pixels tall. Also, the existing 4K upscale from Universal has aliasing artifacts. If Arrow does their own 4K upscale from the 2K anamorphic master, they could fix this artifacting.

The Hateful Eight was shot in Ultra Panavision 70 so yeah that was the 70mm one.

Inglourious Basterds was shot on 35mm, but finished in 2K. We're not getting a scan of the negative because IB does not have a cut negative. Those negative trims were scanned in 2K and the movie was finished as a 2K DI. If they were to go back and scan all those negative trims in 4K it would require them to do post-production all over again. You'd need to completely re-edit the movie from scratch.

EDIT: Chris beat me to it lol

I'm not usually a commentary guy but I do listen to parts of some if they're by well informed people and organized, regardless of whether or not the participants were involved in the making of the film. Those are typically done by historians so, yes, they are often worth listening to. I rarely sit through a commentary for shits and giggles so tracks by the likes of Hysteria Continues I usually skip.

I love this movie but this is a pretty disappointing title compared to the other guesses from that clue

I still have a magazine on the production. Some highlights:

Quote:
had to ensure that those who joined the project at a later time, for example the US team in charge of the final mix, could quickly find any information they needed. This was especially important because after the shoot wrapped in February there was barely three months to complete the edit and DI in the United States, and get a finished print to Cannes.
Quote:
What was the exact workflow?

Answer: DoP Bob Richardson ASC ran a lot of tests during preproduction. Initially, the film was supposed to be finished the conventional way: analogue in the film lab, without a Dl. For that reason a lot of effort went into ensuring that everything was 100% perfect for the shoot. Every day after we wrapped, we collected the day's footage, double checked it against the reports and sent it with the production sound via overnight courier to the ARRI film lab in Munich. There the negative was processed, prepared and cleaned for telecine and prints, since Tarantino likes to screen his dailies on film.
Quote:
Tarantino is considered a purist who prefers to work with just one camera and who forgoes digital effects. Was that the case on Inglourious Basterds?

Answer: Tarantino isn't a fan of VFX or CGI shots. There are around 20 VFX shots in the final film, which were only necessary because of problems with the weather; none of them were needed for storytelling purposes. All of the special effects for Inglourious Basterds were made under the supervision of the legendary John Dykstra and were actually shot. Getting to work with Dykstra was a childhood dream come true for me.

Pretty sure. The Reservoir Dogs DVD had a commentary, but I think it was just a bunch of interviews cut together.

Not a big fan of Arrow picking up movies that already exist on 4K. I'll have to wait to see the reviews to see if it's worth a double dip.

I'm fine with upgrading every single Blu-ray I have but double dipping on existing 4Ks is my limit.
