See, I thought this was the only one of the six EO titles lost in 3-D. Now you're saying Hot Heir and Tales of the Third Dimension are lost?

At any rate, I've never seen this film period and it's one of only two of the EO 3-D titles to show up flat on home video in Philly. The other being the Dogs of Hell reissue of Rottweiler. I'll be interested in seeing it. And I'm hoping Kino can secure the others. It would be great if we had almost all the 80s 3-D films on 3-D Blu Ray.

Have you heard if 3D releases of the other 3 that remain are in the works?
I thought Severin had some of the Owensby titles, but that was a few years back and they've only released one so far. I wonder if a box set is in the works for some point, or if they backed due to having to make the 3 in 3D bluray?
Hopefully something comes as I'd love to see Rotweiler, Chain Gang, and Hit the Road Running in 3D!
It's too bad that Tales of the Third Dimension is incomplete and Hot Heir is nowhere to be found. I wonder if any of the directors have a film print? Maybe Worth Keeter has one?
Worth does not have prints. But he and I are hoping the future will be bright for some of the Owensby films. Presently, most (all?) of what is available for streaming or other looks dismal, and no way will I look at any of them —
But, as the future unfolds . . .

I only commented on this page after Kino's announcement (as I knew the OCN thing was an error, and that it should be corrected). Fortunately, Kino was quick to respond. I'm excited about this release.

So happy to see this being rescued!! It's one of the films from the 80's I never saw in 3D. Hopefully most or all of the other Owensby titles will eventually see a home 3D release and elements can be found for the missing ones. I still have a print of Rottweiler, being probably the widest released of that lot.

Time is probably ticking on many of the international titles as well, as some might already be lost or close to.

Thumbs up

This one stood out when looking through the films of that decade in 3D theaters, and is one I was hoping to eventually see in 3D. Great to hear this is being brought to blu ray 3D! Looking forward to it and the 3D.

Apparently MGM were going to distribute this originally. Would they have received the negative? Perhaps it was sent overseas for the PAL VHS transfer? Unfortunate, whatever the case.

It reportedly did quite well on VHS in the UK. Perhaps the somewhat deceptive cover art played a part. It would seem there was no US video release at the time.
Very nice, thanks for the poster and VHS/Beta sleeve design from back then. Very nice.
Gremloids. A combination of Gremlins and Droids.

The other 4 (of the six 3D movies shot at Owensby's) have good elements.
Given the negatives are practically unobtainable, why choose to restore this movie with so many other classic 3D titles still out there and with available negatives? Seems like there is a very poor decision-maker at the helm at Kino….

Seems the rights for this title were available to be licensed in this way at this time, while the rest of the similar titles from Owensby have different rights situations. They are releasing what was available to be licensed in this way at this moment.

Great effort is being made by many, specially by the 3D film archive, to rescue and if possible to restore as many classic 3D titles as possible. Unfortunately, many titles exist but their owners are not doing a great deal to preserve them nor are they allowing others to help in doing it. And also sometimes the ownership of rights situation is tied in legal matters that are practically unsolvable, preventing anyone to release and sometimes to even "touch" some properties.

Yes and I know for a fact there were/are other classics available…suggesting there were no alternatives simply masks the poor decision…it came down to money…plain & simple..personally I would have paid a bit more for the rights to restore another title that had negatives available but hey it’s their business…I’m just voicing my opinion and clarifying the facts behind these decisions since many clearly remain ignorant…

So it's not what you wanted and you came here to cry and throw a few snide remarks around. But from my perspective it seems like there is a very good decision-maker at Kino. I have been wishing for Hyperspace to get a release ever since I saw the trailer. What would you have preferred they release instead, Manhold?

So would I but am I going to cry about Hyperspace coming out first? No way! The film looks like it's going to be a blast in 3D, bring it on!

Priceless. (I'm reminded of a line from the old Jimmy Kimmel-Adam Carolla "Man Show" about what it would take for me to watch that movie but I don't want to risk running afoul of family-friendly board guidelines. )

While I disagree profoundly with any negative assessment of the competence of the Kino Lorber management -- IMHO they are bar none the best and most consequential indie blu ray distributor, based on sheer volume and variety alone -- this is actually a discussion I welcome from friend FreakyGuy.

Let's set aside the AWOL Warner Bros. 3D titles because by now hopefully we all understand that for the better part of a decade now Bob Furmanek and by extension Kino Lorber have tried mightily to get them off-the-dime to liberate those from the vaults, to no avail.

So that begs the question: What other Golden- and Silver-Age titles, for which proper materials are known to be available (notwithstanding recalcitrant rightsholders, which is a whole 'nother discussion), should 3DFA and Kino Lorber be efforting?

I'm ecstatic over the Frankenstein's Bloody Terror deal and I'd love to see more blu ray releases of overseas titles, but what's realistically within grasp?

I welcome viewpoints; I'm all ears.

I’m certain that 3DFA and Kino are working in partnership to acquire all vintage 3D titles available. The order in which they restore and release them is multifactorial, influenced by licensing terms, rarity and quality of the elements, and optimal commercial release window. They are making our 3D dreams happen one release at a time the best that they can. Almost every remaining title offers more and more resistance to acquire and remain financially successful, yet their pipeline is stocked fuller than anyone else’s.

Just to be clear, I would buy that movie just as I'll buy every vintage movie, though I would have a bit of explaining to do to my wife...
