Universal released the master as intended by the director whereas Turbine performed a re-grade to brighten the image but that was not authorized by Scott Derrickson.

Default Served Up On The Subtle Side

While Twisters is a thoroughly enjoyable slice of hot American apple pie served with a thick, but well-directed, slice of sharp cheddar cheese on top, I do agree that the Atmos mix, while actually quite good, lacked the anticipated heft to be heard at my usual 60% (59db).

That's a number where I rarely need to adjust the master volume, but do dial in the dialogue and sub on a title by title basis.

Bumped up to 70% (still a bit below reference) and to 0% for my sub, it was closer to what I hoped for out of the case if not quite there, but because the Atmos effects were so well integrated into the mix without the additional volume, I just left it as noted.

Curious to what the story is here, an error, or as intended to elevate the subtleness of the Atmos effects over blunt dynamism.

I was on the fence anyways with this one.

I was leaning towards returning this when it came in (which it did today), so I think I’ll follow through with that plan.

So many good movies coming out soon (and just recently) - I can’t buy everything.

My Walmart steelbook arrived today. I placed the order on Tuesday after my initial preorder went from a September 1, 2025 estimated arrival date to "delayed, check back for updates." It arrived in 2 days in perfect condition and the preorder will probably never ship if I just keep the order open.

It's been so long since I posted a custom cover I can't recall if this forum has a section for that (I know HTF does). Whatever...

I happen to prefer the art used on the Walmart steelbook over the regular disc so I decided to pick that up. Loaded up my cart and the price with tax and shipping came up to almost $42. "F" that. I have a computer.

I actually found several posters that I liked, including the art used on the steel. It took a bit to get back into practice, but I posted three versions on Uncovered.name...

I have a good audio system. This atmos track is trash. From the opening 5 minutes it is weak and hollow. This has been an issue with a few newer titles like furiousa. This should be a slam dunk track and it totally ruins the movie for me.

I saw this at a Dolby Cinema, and that's actually how it's supposed to be. It was very weak and shallow like you described it. It lacked that strong LFE presence and dynamic range I typically hear from this theater. This was the worst sounding movie I've seen at a Dolby Cinema. It sucks that it was brought over to home video.

That’s just as bad the studio couldn’t give an action movie about tornadoes a good soundtrack. That’s unbelievable.

I saw it in IMAX and it had great audio. Not sure why the DC theater was weak.

Bearded YouTuber attacks other Bearded YouTubers and calls the Director and Cinematographer 'stupid' because he owns the Blu-ray, DVD, and VHS copies of the film and therefore knows better them and doesn't agree with the changes but also asks that you do not attack him.

Ugh, I couldn't listen to him any more than others: Putting him on 1.75 speed to just get through the waffling and repetition, and I still couldn't do it w/o jumping so much of that junk. I tried tho. I really did.

I was able to catch that ironic calling out of salesmanship was ironic.

fifty-one minutes?

Oh was that a jab at you-know-who right off the bat????

I skipped ahead to the Weird Science bit. That has a completely different look, AND, you can tell how badly done it was, and he's saying that because in '85 it was (badly) done for Weird Science that it should be easy in '96? Not buying that.

OK, at 14:37 he says that the Blu-Ray looks better, but I see Cary's face as being a bit blown out on the BR. The 4K looks more natural.

LOL he says that the "green" shot was only for that one scene and no other and it's inconsistent, then shows shots later in the movie that are green on the 4K and not on the blu. LOL. Dude, really?

Last thing I'll write - I cued up the shot he showed that was "dark" where they're in the trench and it's not dark like that AT ALL on my system.

Chalk this up to someone I won't watch again.

You might need the VHS and the Japanese VCD to really understand how wrong the director is here.

Just finished watching this. I had to turn the volume up about 7.5db. The mix itself was pretty good at that level with some nice LFE but not quite what I was expecting from a movie like this.

PQ-wise, the black levels were fairly elevated, especially in the opening and closing credits. Anybody else notice that? I rechecked my DV settings afterwards and they were fine.

I finally saw it. The picture is excellent with very nice film grain and structure. The DV was nice too and kept it at a low nits count as it should.

The audio was a bit of a let down as expected. Even when I don't have a great system right now, I can tell the difference between this and other movies I watched.

It looked fine to me. The did blacks in the ending credits looked gray or something?
