Max is $20. But even $20 I don’t like spending really anymore with just certain exceptions. I also wish MVD/Scream Factory releases were cheaper.

Over $20 is pushing it, but there are exceptions. Over $30, no way, José.

Minimum, though? Not sure what you mean.

If its a single film purchase, I'll try to stay below $25, or $30 at the max. But with box sets, it depends on how many films are included, plus if any new extras have been added. For example, I most recently bought the 2023 4K reissue of the first six Mission: Impossible entries, and it cost me about $60 plus tax. I learned afterward that Paramount had omitted some of the previous bonus material, which made me glad that I kept my older Blu-Rays.

Usually hope for ten dollars or less which is probably why I have so few boutique releases and uhds in general from the last few years unless they've gone on sale or have been found at local used stores for a solid price. KL have tended to be good at keeping sale prices around $9.99 or less for blus. It's getting tougher to find those kinds of deals for uhd other than maybe BF for studio movies.

In all fairness, the 4K format is still considered both fairly-new and high in profile, since the initial Covid years kept people away from stores and the only way they could upgrade was online. Plus, I think the more affordable players only debuted about 3 years ago, so that didn't help early sales either. Its only in the past 18 months maybe, that 4K has really started to take off, and I didn't buy my own player until this past summer. Most mainstream 4K movies range between $25 and $35, depending on whether its a catalog title and the anticipated demand for it.

The only rule I have is that I won't buy anything from a scalper. If I'm buying a used copy it's at a reasonable price. I won't support scalpers because, as far as I'm concerned, that would make me part of the problem.

It's wild that the first wave of uhds were released nearly nine years ago. At a similar point, it would have been around 2015 and blu ray was well beyond the days of the Best Buy upgrade & save promotions, etc. Blu just seemed more seasoned at similar time intervals while uhd still feels fairly new. But it may be because I just haven't invested in uhd the same way; all these years later and I still mostly collect blu whereas with the first decade or so of blu I was focusing more on that format and trying to upgrade previous dvds. Also, there are just more limitations for 4k with the overwhelming majority of tv shows not released and many movies just will never be released on the format.

I don't use a minimum/maximum range for discs. It depends on the title and whether I want the tatted edition or standard. Prices are still more affordable than when I was buying laserdiscs in the 80's-90's.

I share your frustration with certain things not being released on various formats. For example, two of my favorite dramas from the 1990s have yet to even see a Blu-Ray release: Ghosts of Mississippi and Bicentennial Man. And I'm the sort who often feels that about 90% of dramas are usually too heavy-handed with their stories.

It varies for me, especially with Steelbooks. I think Indy 5 was $45 from Best Buy.. Disney pricing= insane

I try to stay under $30 with new standard 4K releases. Catalog titles I wait for $15 & under.
Horizon is $30 but will likely be a $10 bf title.

Boutique labels:
Criterion Collection- I’m like everybody else and wait for the 50% off sale
Shout- If there’s a slip, I’ll likely bite but if it comes without one I will wait for a sale. $27ish
Kino-not a huge fan of their plain slips so I usually wait for a sale. $17-20
Arrow- chunky box sets are my weakness.
Vinegar Syndrome- depends on the edition/release but they’ve got the best slips. If you’re patient and keep your eye on the remaining copies you can usually snag some good deals.

If I go after a standard Blu-ray I try not to spend more than $5-10. Gotta factor in the 4K release factor as well. Risky game! Last one was Wyatt Earp for $5.

I never really understood the general appeal for SteelBooks. I mean sure, most of the different artwork is cool and all, but it seems the metal cases themselves could easily get scratched, and most of the time the actual content isn't any different from a standard release.

Of those labels you listed, the only one I've bought from is Shout! Factory, and its only been a few: the Blu-Rays of Darkman, The Shadow, and the Eddie & the Cruisers films, plus the 4K edition of Escape From New York. I'm also planning to buy the Blu-Ray edition of Escape From L.A., and combine it with the re-released barebones 4K edition to match the 3-disc set of the first film.

There is definitely a demand for them but it’s gotten out of hand. Not happy that Sony seems to force ‘em especially if you want the Dolby Vision version which they seem to keep exclusive to Steelbooks & re-issues. They need to give options.

I certainly do not have a minimum and I have yet to discover my maximum. I try not to place arbitrary limits upon myself.

The most I have paid for a single movie title to date is $426.86.

Don’t think I could go more than 50 for a single disc. Most I think I paid was $47 for the imported version of Polar Express because I wanted the steelbook

What title brought that kind of price if you don’t mind me asking?

I bought this out of print collector's edition; I really wanted the extra cuts:
