Just the PS3 or all players? Do you know how many other Fox and Lionsgate titles already have DTS-HD Master Audio? Why should the PS3 all of a sudden decode it for Die Hard? Don't get me wrong, I'd love for the PS3 to decode it, but I don't think they'd just update it for Die Hard.

Isn't it rumored that a big update is coming in October? Maybe we'll see support for DTS-HD MA with that. But, the DTS core of a lot of the Fox releases has been pretty impressive, so I'll be content until support comes along.

Actually, update 2.0 has been confirmed. More details about it should be released during the Tokyo Game Show. I hope they included decoding for DTS-HD MA. It would push a lot more PS3 sales.

Well Blu-ray movies aren't made with only the PS3 in mind...

Even though it can't play the DTS-MA track it will still extract the core DTS 1.5 Mbps track. Which will still sound a lot better than DD.

What receiver do you have?
And how many times do you plan to make the same thread?

Yeah because you needed to post this in a few places... And why should the PS3 get DTS-HDMA? Never has Sony said they'd give it to us or that it's even possible...

Your quote would make sense if there werent stand alone players that can bitstream DTS-MA. However, there are players that have DTS-MA support so it is a valid question. I don't think it is possible though due to hardware limitations.

Didn't I add an icon for you? We don't need two new threads on the obvious.

Guys the goal is to have DTS-MA decoding in the player just like TrueHD is done now.

Bitstreaming won't happen but decoding most certainly can once the licensing is worked out with DTS.

Reading this kind of thread makes me so happy I bought the Panny BD30. My PS3 has been moved to the bedroom due to this problem. Most of the major movies out recently (FF2, Die Hard, etc) have been Fox. You would think Sony would have been all over this before the holiday season started. They know that PS3 owners with capable receivers were not going to be patient for much longer. Besides, Sony's 2 new player S300, S500 still will not decode or bitstream DTS-HDMA.
If this was HDDVD it would not be a big deal considering barely any of their discs have DTS-HDMA on them. But this is BD!! and all our movies can fit DTS-HDMA on them. That was my cheap 'Rah-Rah' speech. Bottom line is Sony needs to step it up, or they will fall behind the others players in the BD game, with Pioneer and Panasonic leading the way.

I remember reading something simmilar to this. Something a long the lines of there is currently only a hardware solution for DTS HDMA decoding for SoC type devices and that sony were waiting for DTS to develop a software solution before they could integrate it into the PS3.

We do not doubt that it would be nice. Personally, I cannot tell the difference between lossless and master audio. The PS3 is a multipurpose machine. I cannot imagine why you would put it in a bedroom. No partner, kids, family, or friends? You chose a few movies over total entertainment? Well I'll be da****!

I really do hope this is released in a firmware update at some point in the future, otherwise it will force me to buy a separate BD player. It sucks too, because my receiver can decode DTS-MA, but my PS3 can't bitstream it.

You shouldn't be confused. I do know what you are saying, but when the PS3 came out last year it was the least expensive BD player on the market. It has delivered on all facets of entertainment, but it is falling behind in it's home theater use. I do not use it for gaming, although after I first got it, I was addicted to RFOM until I finished the game. Now it is just for theater use. Honestly, their is a huge difference between the core DTS and DTS-HDMA. After I purchased the BD30, I went back and watched some Fox movies I have and noticed a difference right away. The soundstage on master audio is much more alive. If you do not have a 5.1 setup then there is no point, but if you do, you honestly are missing out of a lot of surround effects and center channel clarity. We bought and supported BD, because it is the future of home video entertainment. I am saying that the future is here, Sony needs to step up and recognize this.
